About the role
Job Description: Data Architect
Location: Hybrid – Reston, VA (1–2 days onsite per month) Job Type: Contract
Duration: 6+ Months

AWS (Aurora Postgres, Redshift, S3), Cloudera/Big Data platforms, Erwin data modeling, RDBMS architecture, and healthcare domain experience.
The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL , Redshift , S3 , and prior hands-on experience with Cloudera or comparable big data platforms. This position also requires strong data modeling skills and the ability to architect scalable, high-performance solutions aligned with enterprise needs.
This hybrid role requires candidates who are local to the Reston, VA area , with occasional onsite presence (1–2 times per month).
Key Responsibilities
Data Migration & Architecture
Lead the end-to-end data migration effort from Cloudera to AWS/Redshift .
Design and implement scalable data architecture frameworks supporting enterprise analytics and reporting.
Develop data ingestion, transformation, and storage strategies using Aurora PostgreSQL , Redshift , and S3 .
Data Modeling & Governance
Create logical and physical data models using Erwin or similar modeling tools.
Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and lineage across cloud and relational database environments.
Establish architectural standards, best practices, and governance processes.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
Work closely with data engineers, developers, and business stakeholders to define architecture requirements.
Provide architectural oversight for database design, ETL workflows, and cloud integration.
Troubleshoot performance issues and optimize data pipelines and storage structures.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of experience as a Data Architect, leading large-scale architecture initiatives.
Healthcare domain experience (1+ year) strongly preferred.
Expertise with Aurora PostgreSQL or similar relational database platforms.
Strong hands-on experience with AWS Redshift , S3 , and cloud-native data solutions.
Cloudera experience is required (open to other big data platforms such as Hadoop, Hive, etc.).
Proficiency with Erwin or other data modeling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, Sparx EA).
Strong understanding of enterprise data management, data warehousing, and cloud migration patterns.
