About the role
We have a need remote contract position that needs a skilled TWS ( Tivoli Workload Scheduler ) Administrator/Engineer for a healthcare client of ours out in California.
It's a 6-month contract position, fully remote (needs to be able to work PST hours), any citizenship is fine, and communication should be strong.
Should bring the following:
Experience automated scripting jobs, creating scripts between pick up location and destination folder and if possible, with an EPIC environment are all key.
Epic is a nice to have but Cerner or another EHR system will suffice.

Overview/Summary Statement:
Reporting to/under the direction of the Sr. Manager of ITSM, you will provide technical support responsibilities for Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS).
The engineer will manage, support, and optimize workload automation for our healthcare IT environment, with a focus on EPIC systems .
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Tivoli Workload Scheduler, healthcare IT workflows, and integration with EPIC modules.
This role is critical for ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with healthcare industry standards.
Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities)

7+ years of hands-on experience as a TWS/Workload Scheduler Administrator .

Strong background in automation and scripting (UNIX/Linux shell, Python, Perl, PowerShell, etc.).

Experience working in a healthcare IT environment .

Solid troubleshooting, performance tuning, and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of ITIL best practices for incident, change, and problem management.

Advanced knowledge of Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) and its components.

Proficiency in automating workloads for healthcare IT systems, including EPIC.

Strong understanding of Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems.

Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation and custom workflows.

Familiarity with EPIC modules and database workflows, such as Clarity and Chronicles .

Job Duties/Tasks:

Design, implement, and maintain Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) environments to support EPIC healthcare operations.
-
Create, modify, and manage TWS job schedules to optimize system performance and workflow efficiency.
-
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to TWS job failures or system performance.
-
Collaborate with EPIC application teams to integrate TWS with EPIC modules (e.g., Clarity, Chronicles, Hyperspace).

Administer, configure, and maintain IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) across enterprise environments.
-
Design, implement, and monitor automated job schedules, ensuring high availability and minimal disruptions.

Develop and maintain custom scripts (Shell, Python, PowerShell, Perl, or similar) to improve automation, monitoring, and error handling.

Collaborate with healthcare application teams—including Epic—to build and support job schedules, interfaces, and reporting processes.

Troubleshoot and resolve scheduling issues, job failures, and system errors in a timely manner.
-
Maintain documentation for job flows, automation standards, and escalation procedures.

Work closely with Infrastructure, Database, and Application teams to support operational and project initiatives.

Ensure compliance with healthcare IT standards, security, and regulatory requirements (HIPAA, HITRUST, etc.).

Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed.

Ensure workload automation supports EPIC-specific workflows and critical batch jobs.

Proactively monitor TWS environments to ensure availability and reliability for healthcare workflows.

Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures to address recurring issues.

Follow ITSM and ITIL best practices (Incident, Change, Problem, Asset & Configurations, etc.).

Practice and execute ITIL processes and workflow and understand the business model.

Ensure ITSM continuous improvements through coordination and communication with other ITSM process owners and champions.

Develop and manage Communications between internal OLAs and external SLAs.

Ensure ITSM service catalog descriptions are maintained up to date and accurately for all Communications assets
