About the role
Role Overview We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to own the end-to-end mechanical design of a compact, low-power wireless product . The role involves translating system requirements (electronics, RF, optics, battery, thermal, environmental) into a manufacturable, rugged enclosure suitable for outdoor and mission-critical use. Key Responsibilities 1. Product & Enclosure Design Design complete mechanical housing for wireless camera systems (indoor/outdoor). Convert functional requirements (camera FOV, antenna placement, battery size, PCB constraints) into mechanical design. Design for compact form factor , modularity, and serviceability. Support mounting options: pole, wall, tripod, vehicle, wearable, or custom brackets. 2. Environmental & Ruggedization Design enclosures to meet IP65 / IP67 / IP68 ingress protection standards. Consider thermal management (passive cooling, heat sinks, airflow, material selection). Account for shock, vibration, dust, rain, humidity, and temperature extremes . Experience with outdoor, defence, industrial, or wildlife products preferred 3. Materials & Manufacturing Select suitable materials: Plastics (ABS, PC-ABS, Nylon, TPU) Metals (Aluminium, Magnesium, Stainless Steel) Design for Injection Molding, CNC machining, Die casting, Sheet metal . Apply DFM, DFA, and DFMEA principles. Create tolerances, GD&T, and assembly-ready designs. 4. Integration with Electronics & RF Collaborate closely with electronics and RF engineers . Ensure correct placement for: Camera module & lens Antennas (avoid RF shielding issues) Battery & power circuitry Connectors, seals, and vents Design EMI/ESD considerations into enclosure layout. 5. CAD, Documentation & Prototyping Create 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings . Support rapid prototyping (3D printing, CNC). Work with vendors for tooling, prototypes, and pilot builds. Support design iterations based on field testing feedback. Required Skills & Tools Core Skills Strong fundamentals in mechanical engineering & product design Experience designing electronics enclosures Understanding of optics, RF constraints, and battery integration Knowledge of sealing methods (O-rings, gaskets, ultrasonic welding) CAD Tools (any one mandatory) SolidWorks Creo Fusion 360 CATIA / NX (bonus) Manufacturing Knowledge Injection molding best practices Tooling constraints and parting line design Tolerance stack-ups Surface finishes & coatings (anodizing, powder coat)
