Programmer / Automation Developer

As a Programmer / Automation Developer at our company, your primary responsibility will be to translate the day-to-day needs of our accounting team into reliable cloud-based tools. You will collaborate closely with team members to understand their requirements and develop solutions that are user-friendly, accurate, and easy to maintain. This is a hands-on role that involves transforming manual processes into automated systems and effectively communicating technical details in plain language. Key Responsibilities: - Understand requirements: Collaborate with team members to clearly define project scopes before starting the coding process. - Build cloud-based applications: Develop tools using modern technologies such as Python, JavaScript/Node.js, SQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL), and REST APIs to replace legacy Excel/VBA macros. - Automate workflows: Create end-to-end automations using platforms like Zapier, Make.com, or similar tools connected to QuickBooks Online, Xero, Karbon, Google Workspace, Slack, and other relevant software. - Utilize AI as a tool: Leverage AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT to accelerate development, improve code quality, and prototype efficiently while ensuring the final product's quality. - Explain in simple language: Document programs in non-technical terms so that accountants can understand their functionality, required inputs, and troubleshooting steps. - Debug and support: Quickly troubleshoot errors, identify root causes, implement fixes, and establish preventive measures to avoid recurring issues. - Ensure 100% accuracy: Incorporate validation checks, reconciliation logic, and audit trails in all tools to eliminate errors in accounting processes. Qualifications Required: - Strong programming skills with proficiency in at least one modern language (Python preferred; JavaScript/Node.js, C#, or similar). - Database knowledge including SQL, schema design, query writing, and experience with cloud databases. - Experience with Zapier (or equivalent) in building multi-step Zaps, handling webhooks, error paths, and integrating business applications. - Fluency in AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or similar for effective usage and validation of AI output. - Familiarity with accounting concepts (debits/credits, reconciliations, P&L, balance sheet) and tools like QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar. - Clear communication skills to translate technical concepts into plain English for non-technical stakeholders. - Strong debugging mindset with the ability to isolate bugs, analyze logs, and explain issues without technical jargon. - Ownership mentality to treat every tool development process as a personal product, from gathering requirements to post-launch support.
