About the role
What you ll do: Engineering Management - Recruit, develop, mentor and manage a high performing multi-disciplined Engineering team consisting of Electrical, Controls and Mechanical skillsets. Drive Innovation: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of new product developments, ensuring they meet global customer demands and transition seamlessly into high-volume production with speed, cost-efficiency, and superior quality. Strategic Prioritization: Collaborate with key stakeholders to define clear prioritization criteria, optimize resource allocation, and consistently achieve commitments. Technical Commercial Acumen: Facilitate critical technical decisions, balancing the pursuit of engineering excellence with commercial realities and dependencies. Financial Stewardship: Develop and manage annual engineering budgets, implementing robust capacity planning to support production and product line demands. Talent Cultivation: Champion team development by establishing technical competency frameworks, fostering resource growth, and creating pathways for progression and succession planning. Performance Excellence: Define and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) that drive accountability and operational efficiency across the engineering function. Strategic Sourcing: Develop and manage external partnerships, including outsourcing and sub-contracting, to strategically manage demand peaks and access specialized expertise (e.g., CAE, CAD), mitigating business risks. You ll have the following skills and experience: Educational Foundation: A Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, complemented by extensive, proven management experience within the power generation packaging industry. Formal training in product development and design is essential; Chartered Engineer status is a plus. Seasoned Expertise: You are a fully qualified, professional engineer with deep technical acumen, capable of resolving complex issues and ensuring designs leverage the best commercial use of available technologies. Pragmatic Leadership: A hands-on leader with specific power generation industry design experience, you balance design investment with commercial benefits, driving practical and effective solutions. Extensive Experience: A minimum of 10 years in design/development within a demanding manufacturing environment, including significant experience managing professional engineers. Exceptional People Skills: A proven ability to develop, coach, mentor, motivate, and inspire a team of highly skilled engineers. Quality Champion: Demonstrated compliance with ISO9001 Quality Assurance systems. Resilience Balance: Thrive under pressure, delivering high-quality results within tight deadlines, while expertly balancing reliability, maintainability, performance, and commercial constraints. Structured Development: Proficient in controlled simultaneous engineering and stage-gated Product Development processes.
