Principal Software Engineer, Back End

You will be joining Agoda, a global company that aims to connect people to destinations and experiences through their millions of hotels, holiday properties, flights, and experiences worldwide. At Agoda, you will work in the Back End Engineering department, focusing on building scalable systems and APIs that host core business logic and ensuring systems are self-healing and responsive to extreme loads. Using state-of-the-art languages like Scala and Go, you will collaborate with a diverse team from around the world to make a significant impact. Role Overview: As a Principal Engineer at Agoda, you will drive innovation across AI-powered data experience and platform infrastructure. Your role involves leading the development of AI-powered data querying solutions, developing scalable data quality tools, and acting as a technical leader across AI, data infrastructure, and reliability domains. Key Responsibilities: - Lead the development of AI-powered data querying solutions to enable users to ask business questions in natural language and receive actionable insights. - Architect and develop scalable data quality tools and frameworks to ensure reliable and trustworthy data. - Act as a hands-on technical leader, addressing complex challenges across AI query engines, data quality systems, and analytical engines. - Collaborate with TPMs and stakeholders to define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for AI-driven querying, query engines, and data quality tools. - Mentor engineers and elevate standards across data quality & governance tools, query engines, and the broader data platform. Qualifications Required: - 10+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields. - Strong hands-on experience with SQL, large-scale data systems, modern analytical databases, and backend development. - Experience with AI/LLM-based applications, data platforms, and analytical infrastructure at scale. - Strong understanding of data modeling, query execution, and performance optimization. - Proven ability to lead cross-team, high-impact technical initiatives and excellent communication skills. If you have experience with text-to-SQL systems, AI-driven data interfaces, data observability, quality, or governance frameworks, or tools like dbt, Airflow, Spark, it would be considered a plus.
