Senior Database Engineer (PostgreSQL)

About the Role We are looking for an experienced Senior Database Engineer (PostgreSQL) to design, implement, optimize, and maintain high-performance PostgreSQL databases for enterprise-scale applications. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in database architecture, performance tuning, replication, backup strategies, high availability, security, and cloud-hosted PostgreSQL environments. The role requires close collaboration with software architects, backend developers, DevOps engineers, and infrastructure teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and secure database systems. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain PostgreSQL databases for enterprise applications. Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, execution plan analysis, and schema tuning. Design scalable database schemas following best practices. Monitor database health, performance, and availability. Configure and manage PostgreSQL replication (Streaming Replication, Logical Replication). Implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions. Plan and execute database backup and recovery strategies. Perform database migrations and upgrades with minimal downtime. Troubleshoot production database issues and perform root cause analysis. Implement database security, encryption, user roles, and access controls. Automate database administration tasks using scripts and monitoring tools. Collaborate with development teams to improve SQL performance. Review database designs during software architecture discussions. Create and maintain database documentation and operational runbooks. Support production deployments and database releases. Participate in on-call production support when required. Minimum 4 years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience. Experience supporting production databases with high availability. Experience managing databases larger than 1 TB is preferred. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. Soft Skills Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
