Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Linux/Unix Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support, modernize, and transform large-scale, mission-critical enterprise infrastructure. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in incident management (P1/P2), platform engineering, and hybrid cloud environments, supporting 20,000+ global servers across datacenters and cloud platforms.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong blend of operational excellence, engineering leadership, and automation expertise, with proven success in modernization initiatives, legacy migrations, and enterprise-scale system design.
Key Responsibilities
Critical Incident & Operations Management
Serve as SME for P1/P2 incident response, root cause analysis, and service restoration for mission-critical systems
Lead incident bridges and post-incident reviews; implement preventive measures
Drive improvements in incident management, observability, and system reliability
Linux / Unix Platform Engineering
Manage full RHEL lifecycle (7–8+), including upgrades, patching, and end-of-life planning
Implement CIS-based OS hardening and ensure continuous compliance
Develop and maintain automation using Chef, Ansible, and scripting (Bash/KornShell/Python)
Build and manage RHEL golden images and cloud templates
Infrastructure Transformation & Modernization
Lead RHEL 7 → RHEL 8 migration initiatives, reducing technical debt and improving security posture
Drive AIX/legacy Unix migrations to Linux and Azure (including Azure Skytap)
Support application and database modernization, reducing operational and revenue risk
Enable datacenter consolidation and cloud adoption strategies
Hybrid Cloud & Virtualization
Support large-scale environments across VMware, Nutanix, Dell VxRail, and Azure IaaS / VMware Solution
Design and manage hybrid cloud architectures integrating on-prem and cloud platforms
Execute P2V migrations and optimize virtualized workloads
Enterprise Systems & Platforms
Support enterprise workloads including SAP, Oracle Databases, Teamcenter, HPC platforms
Manage and optimize Unix systems: AIX, HP-UX, Solaris
Build and manage IBM NIM, VIOS environments, and storage integrations (GPFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel)
Disaster Recovery & High Availability
Design, implement, and test DR/HA strategies for mission-critical systems
Support DR solutions for key platforms including Oracle and Teamcenter
Lead disaster recovery exercises and ensure compliance with RTO/RPO objectives
Core Infrastructure & Security Tools
Engineer and support enterprise services and tooling, including:
DNS, NTP, Satellite
Security & monitoring: Splunk, Rapid7, CrowdStrike, Qualys, Microsoft Defender
Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards and vulnerability remediation
Required Qualifications
7–10 years of hands-on experience in Linux/Unix system administration and engineering
Proven experience managing large-scale enterprise environments (10K+ servers)
Expertise in P1/P2 incident management and root cause analysis
Strong experience with Linux distributions (Red Hat, SUSE, Ubuntu) and Unix systems (AIX, HP-UX, Solaris)
Demonstrated experience in migration projects (Unix → Linux, On-prem → Cloud)
Certifications (Required / Preferred)
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
VMware Certified Professional – Data Center Virtualization (2023)
CompTIA Security+
Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
