Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Manager, Apple Maps

As a senior manager leading the follow-the-sun SRE team in Hyderabad for Apple Maps, your role is crucial in ensuring business continuity for Maps services and elevating the existing team to operate as a true peer of the US organization. Your responsibilities include: - Operating with the fundamental principle that reliability is feature number one. - Defining and executing a SRE strategy in collaboration with the US team to meet the needs of both external and internal users. - Leading and growing an SRE team with a focus on technical excellence, operational rigor, and engineering culture. - Representing the SRE perspective in cross-functional planning, translating reliability requirements into architecture decisions and investment priorities. - Driving automation, platform improvements, capacity strategy, and systems design to go beyond reactive incident response. - Defining and executing an AI strategy for the SRE organization to leverage AI/ML-powered tooling for reducing toil, accelerating root cause analysis, and improving reliability outcomes. - Driving adoption of AI-assisted tooling into day-to-day SRE workflows and fostering a culture of experimentation with AI tools. - Building strong partnerships across Apple and effectively communicating with senior leadership. - Mentoring and developing leaders within the organization and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience leading follow-the-sun SRE teams for large-scale distributed services. - Proficiency in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and Kubernetes at scale. - Background in capacity planning, performance engineering, or infrastructure architecture. - Track record of driving cultural and process transformation within SRE organizations. - Experience with AI-powered operational tooling and LLM-based developer/SRE productivity tools. - Track record of driving AI adoption within engineering teams and operating services at Apple-scale user volumes. Minimum Qualifications: - 15+ years of experience in SRE or adjacent disciplines, with at least 5 years in senior management roles. - Demonstrated experience leading SRE teams supporting large-scale, user-facing distributed services. - Strong technical proficiency in Linux fundamentals, distributed systems concepts, networking, and infrastructure at scale. - Experience applying AI/ML tooling or LLM-based solutions to improve SRE or infrastructure operations. - Ability to read and understand code produced by LLMs and evaluate its suitability for production use. - Defined or actively executing an AI strategy for a large SRE organization. - Proven ability to communicate at the executive level and negotiate across organizational boundaries.
