About the Role - Staff Engineer Backend Engineering Aviatrix Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) delivers the intelligence, network, and security services of Aviatrixs multi-cloud platform as a managed offering, built on modern microservices architecture. Were seeking a Staff Engineer for our SaaS Platform team to bring technical depth to backend engineering, contribute to distributed microservices and cloud-native infrastructure design on AWS, mentor junior engineers, and raise the bar on reliability, performance, and security. Responsibilities Architecture & Technical Contribution Own design and delivery of backend platform features, breaking down complex projects into scoped tasks Contribute to architecture discussions on scalability, fault tolerance, multi-tenancy, and operational simplicity Collaborate on core platform services using AWS-managed services (Aurora, MSK/Kafka, ClickHouse) Evaluate trade-offs on technology choices, system boundaries, and API contracts; write clear design docs Backend Engineering Excellence Design high-performance microservices using gRPC, REST, and event-driven patterns (Golang preferred) Reinforce best practices for observability, resiliency, and SLO-driven operations Contribute to supportability (runbooks, diagnostics) and apply security best practices across service boundaries Participate in design reviews, capacity planning, and incident retrospectives Mentorship & Collaboration Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and 1-on-1s Collaborate with Product Management; participate in on-call and incident RCA; support recruiting as needed Requirements Experience & Education 7+ years software engineering experience, with some mentoring experience BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) Experience on a SaaS/PaaS product with high-availability, multi-tenancy exposure; comfortable with ambiguity Backend & Microservices Strong Golang preferred; production-grade gRPC microservices experience a plus Solid grasp of distributed systems (consistency, fault tolerance, service discovery, circuit breaking, back-pressure) Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, OS, and systems programming API design/versioning experience (REST and gRPC), backward compatibility SaaS Platform & AWS Managed Services Experience with multi-tenancy and high-availability design patterns Familiarity with AWS-managed services (Aurora, MSK/Kafka, ClickHouse); event-driven systems (SQS, SNS) a plus Production Deployment & Supportability Experience deploying/operating production services, release management, and operational readiness Understanding of observability, alerting, diagnostics, and runbooks; incident response and RCA experience AWS & Cloud Infrastructure Experience with AWS as primary cloud platform; familiarity with Kubernetes (EKS) Familiarity with IaC (Terraform, CDK, CloudFormation) and CI/CD for cloud-native services Nice to Have Monitoring/logging/tracing or platform-management tooling experience Additional AWS services (RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch, Lambda); multi-cloud (Azure, GCP) exposure Network security, cloud networking, or SASE/SD-WAN background; open-source contributions or technical writing Interpersonal & Communication Strong written/verbal communication; effective in collaborative, distributed teams; skilled at mentoring and building consensus Watch our culture video: glimpse of life at Aviatrix BENEFITS US : We cover 100% of employee premiums and 88% of dependent(s) premiums for medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) match, short and long-term disability, life/AD&D insurance, $1,000/year education reimbursement, and a flexible vacation policy.
