About the role
Battery Testing and Development Engineer Employment Type : Full Time Location : Ahmedabad Department : Power Electronics Design We are seeking a skilled Battery Testing and Development Engineer to support the development and qualification of lithium-ion battery systems for space applications. The role involves hands-on testing, validation, and integration of battery packs and Battery Management Systems (BMS) for space and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) missions. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of aerospace-grade battery characterization, environmental testing, and technical documentation aligned with industry standards. Key Responsibilities Conduct functional, performance, and environmental testing on lithium-ion battery packs designed for spacecraft and aerospace missions. Validate battery behavior across thermal and orbital environments, including extreme charge/discharge profiles. Interface with space-grade BMS for configuration, diagnostics, and fault management. Operate automated test setups involving programmable power supplies, electronic loads, DMMs, thermal chambers, and SCPI-controlled systems. Log and analyze telemetry data for voltage, current, and temperature; compute SoC, capacity, and degradation profiles. Document test procedures, results, and corrective actions in line with ECSS, MIL-STD, UN 38.3, and ISRO requirements. Support battery design optimization including pack configuration, redundancy planning, and harness routing. Collaborate with system, QA/QC, and engineering teams to meet qualification targets and mission requirements. Qualifications and Skills Education and Experience Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field. 2-3 years of hands-on experience with lithium-ion battery packs and BMS in aerospace or defense-grade systems. Technical Skills Proficient in testing battery charging profiles (CC/CV, float, trickle) and C-rate-based discharge analysis. Familiar with lab instrumentation including Keysight/Rigol PSUs, Fluke DMMs, and thermal vacuum chambers. Understanding of test automation, scripting (preferably Python), and SCPI protocol. Experience with aerospace or defense standards such as ECSS-E-ST-20-07, MIL-PRF-32383, or ISRO guidelines. Preferred Skills Knowledge of thermal vacuum testing, radiation impact on batteries, and orbit cycling validation. Familiarity with low-outgassing materials, space-qual PCB design, and spacecraft power integration. Exposure to space agency workflows (e.g., ISRO, ESA, NASA) or defense mission cycles. Soft Skills Excellent documentation and analytical reporting abilities. Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety and compliance. Capable of working independently in a fast-paced, highly regulated engineering environment.
