Reports to: Head of Engineering Division: HRS Work Location: Chennai Department Engineering Role: Senior Piping Engineer JOB DESCRIPTION We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Piping Engineer with 710 years of experience in the design and engineering of piping systems for Combined Cycle Power Plants (CCPPs), with specific focus on Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs). The candidate will be responsible for developing optimized piping layouts, co-ordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications, and supporting project execution through engineering, construction, commissioning, and startup phases. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in high-pressure power plant piping systems and demonstrate effective coordination with Pipe Stress, Pipe Support, Structural, Mechanical, and Construction Engineering teams. The candidate should be capable of developing optimized, clash-free piping routings in 3D plant design environments while considering piping flexibility, thermal expansion, support requirements, equipment interfaces, constructability, operation, and maintenance requirements. ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE Piping Engineering & Layout Development Develop piping layouts for power plant projects considering thermal expansion, flexibility, constructability, operability, accessibility, and maintenance requirements. Design and optimize routing for: ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ High Pressure Steam Piping Feed Water Systems Condensate Systems Blowdown Systems Drains and Vents ¢ Prepare and review piping layouts, general arrangement drawings, isometrics, and piping deliverables. Piping Flexibility & Stress Coordination ¢ Coordinate closely with Pipe Stress Engineers to ensure compliance with applicable codes and project requirements. ¢ ¢ Review pipe stress analysis reports and implement routing and support recommendations. Understand and evaluate: ¢ ¢ ¢ Sustained loads Operating loads Occasional loads ¢ ¢ Ensure piping layouts adequately accommodate thermal expansion and equipment movements. Participate in piping flexibility reviews and routing optimization studies. Pipe Support Engineering Coordination ¢ Coordinate design and placement of: ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ Anchors Guides Line Stops Rigid Supports Hangers Variable Spring Supports Constant Spring Supports ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ Review support concepts for compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards. Validate spring hanger selections, travel requirements, installation loads, and operating conditions. Verify support locations within the 3D model for accessibility, maintenance clearance, and clash-free installation. Ensure proper implementation of cold-load settings, travel stops, and field installation requirements. Pipe Support Optimization & Constructability ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ Participate in pipe support model reviews and resolution of discipline interface issues. Coordinate with structural engineers regarding support attachment details and platform interfaces. Review support fabrication drawings and vendor documentation. Optimize support philosophy to: ¢ ¢ ¢ Reduce structural steel tonnage Improve constructability Minimize maintenance requirements ¢ Review requirements for dynamic supports including snubbers, sway braces, and restraints where applicable. Project Execution & Site Support ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ Participate in 3D model reviews and interdisciplinary clash resolution meetings. Support modularization studies and modular construction initiatives where applicable. Participate in constructability reviews during engineering and execution phases. Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and startup. Resolve field engineering queries related to piping layouts, supports, spring hangers, and equipment interfaces. Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelors Degre in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. 710 years of relevant piping engineering experience in: ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ HRSG OEM organizations EPC companies Power Plant Engineering organizations ¢ ¢ Proven experience in Combined Cycle Power Plant projects. Hands-on experience with: ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ High Pressure Steam Systems Feed Water Systems Condensate Systems Blowdown Systems Drains and Vents ¢ ¢ ¢ ¢ Experience in international projects is highly preferred. Familiarity with modular construction philosophy and modularized plant design. Experience participating in 3D model reviews and clash resolution activities.
