About the role
As a Software Engineer for the Network Reliability Engineering (NRE) team at Barry-Wehmiller, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing network automation solutions and front-end applications to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and visibility across the enterprise network environment. Your responsibilities will include: - Designing, developing, and maintaining network automation solutions to streamline operational tasks and improve service reliability. - Building and enhancing front-end interfaces, dashboards, and platforms for effective use of automation tools by engineering and operations teams. - Collaborating with network engineering, infrastructure, and IT teams to translate requirements into scalable software solutions. - Supporting the design and implementation of automation frameworks to improve network configurability, observability, supportability, and performance. - Driving engineering initiatives throughout the software development lifecycle, including research, design, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement. - Troubleshooting and resolving application, integration, and data issues within defined timelines, including support for production environments. - Developing, supporting, and maintaining software and automation capabilities to enhance the productivity of network engineers and operations teams. - Contributing to the modernization, optimization, and redesign of existing tools and platforms for improved stability, usability, and maintainability. - Providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 operational support for automation platforms and related engineering solutions. Qualifications required for this role include: - Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. - Minimum of 3-5 years of software development experience, preferably in network engineering or infrastructure automation. - Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript. - Solid understanding of software development fundamentals, including design, testing, debugging, version control, and maintenance. - Experience building reliable, scalable, and secure automation systems or internal engineering platforms. - Hands-on experience with web-based user interfaces, dashboards, or front-end applications. - Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, and network operations workflows. - Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills in Linux-based environments. - Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly. Preferred qualifications include experience with automation frameworks, REST APIs, front-end frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, network-as-code, monitoring, telemetry, and reliability engineering practices.
