Head of Technology (Path to CTO)

Job Title: Head of Product & Technology (Path to CTO) 5+ Years Experience Location: Worli, Mumbai (On-site) CTC: 1520 LPA + Equity About Us BedR India is rebuilding how student and budget housing works in this country from discovery to day-to-day management. We have two live products in production: a marketplace where students and young professionals find and book PGs and hostels, and a full-stack SaaS platform that helps property owners run their operations end-to-end listings, bookings, payments, tenant communication, the works. Real users, real transactions, real growth. We're now taking our SaaS mobile building apps on Flutter and React Native to put property management in the hands of the people doing it on the ground. This is the next major chapter for BedR, and we need the right person to lead it. The Role This is not a senior developer position. This is the person who owns everything to do with technology at BedR product, architecture, mobile, infrastructure, team, and technical narrative when we're in a room with investors. You'll work directly with the founders, lead a team of junior-to-mid developers, set the technical direction, and be the single point of accountability for every technology decision we make. You will write code yourself. You will ship things. And in a few months, as you demonstrate the technical and cultural fit we're looking for, you will become CTO. If you want to drift into pure management, this isn't the role. If you want to own the full technical stack of a growing proptech startup and have your fingerprints on everything we build read on. What You'll Own Complete ownership of all technology at BedR both products, all infrastructure, the entire engineering function. If it's technical, it's yours. Lead the build of our Flutter and React Native mobile apps for property owners the most immediate priority. Own the technical roadmap across our marketplace and SaaS products. Architect and optimize backend services APIs, database design, performance, security. Make infrastructure decisions on AWS, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines that scale with us. Set code quality standards, lead reviews, and actively mentor the development team. Translate product ideas from the founders into well-engineered, well-shipped features. Represent the technology function in investor meetings, fundraising conversations, and product demos clearly and confidently. The Stack React Next.js Node.js PostgreSQL Flutter React Native AWS Docker We work on an existing production codebase. You'll improve it, not rewrite it for fun. What We're Looking For 5+ years of strong full-stack engineering experience with real ownership over architecture and product decisions. Hands-on experience shipping mobile apps on Flutter, React Native, or both. Apps that are live, not just prototypes. Full-stack proficiency: Next.js frontend, Node.js/Express backend, PostgreSQL, AWS + Docker. A track record of leading or meaningfully mentoring engineers. Strong product instincts you understand that good code solving the wrong problem is still bad engineering. Prior startup experience you've worked in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment and thrived in it. Exceptional communication skills you can explain a technical architecture to a founder and an investment thesis to an investor, and both conversations land. Preferred: degree from a top engineering institution (IIT, NIT, BITS, or equivalent). We care more about what you've built, but strong fundamentals matter to us. Who You Are You're a few years into a solid engineering career and you want more than tickets to close. You want ownership. You want to set direction. You've shipped mobile apps that real people use and you know what it takes to keep them running. You've worked at a startup you know what it means to make hard calls with incomplete information, and you're comfortable with it. You can jump between Flutter and Next.js in the same week without losing context. You've been in production incidents at midnight and came out of them having learned something. You communicate well. Not just with engineers with founders, designers, and investors too. You can walk into a fundraising meeting and speak to the technical credibility of what we've built. And you're genuinely excited about the problem. PG rentals and property management in India are broken, and you see the infrastructure opportunity underneath that.
