Staff Engineer

Job Description Staff Engineer Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to provide deep technical leadership and drive the architecture of critical systems across multiple engineering teams. This role is part of the individual contributor (IC) leadership track and focuses on solving complex technical challenges, influencing engineering direction, and ensuring platforms are built for scalability, reliability, and longterm maintainability. The Staff Engineer partners closely with Engineering Managers, Product Leaders, Architects, and Senior Engineers to shape technical strategy and ensure consistent engineering standards across teams. This role requires a strong balance of handson engineering, architectural thinking, crossteam technical influence, and the ability to evolve systems toward AIdriven capabilities. Technical Leadership Lead the design and architecture of largescale distributed systems. Provide technical direction for critical platform components and shared services. Drive engineering best practices around scalability, performance, security, and reliability. Solve complex system problems impacting multiple teams or products. Technical Influence Influence architectural and technical decisions across multiple teams. Act as a technical authority in key platform areas. Guide teams in making tradeoffs between speed, scalability, and maintainability. Identify systemic technical risks and propose longterm architectural improvements. Help shape the longterm technical strategy of the platform. AIDriven Systems Enablement Drive evolution of existing systems to support AIdriven and datadriven capabilities. Identify opportunities to integrate machine learning, AI agents, or intelligent automation. Design systems supporting AI inference pipelines, vector search, and intelligent workflows. Enable engineering teams to leverage AIassisted development and automation. Ensure architecture supports scalable data pipelines and AI workloads. CrossTeam Engineering Impact Ensure architectural alignment across teams and services. Review major technical designs and architectural proposals. Drive adoption of shared frameworks and platform standards. Collaborate with teams to solve platformlevel engineering challenges. System Architecture Design scalable, faulttolerant distributed systems. Define architectural patterns and reusable platform components. Ensure maintainability, extensibility, and resilience of systems. Establish best practices for service communication and data management. Observability & Reliability Implement strong observability practices including metrics, logging, tracing, and monitoring. Define standards for instrumentation, alerting, and operational dashboards. Improve system reliability through proactive monitoring and incident analysis. Apply SRE practices such as SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets. Improve MTTD (Mean Time to Detection) and MTTR (Mean Time to Recovery). Engineering Excellence Lead architecture and code reviews for critical components. Promote standards around testing, monitoring, deployment, and reliability. Improve CI/CD workflows and release processes. Encourage maintainable, welldocumented codebases. Mentorship and Technical Growth Mentor senior engineers and guide complex system design decisions. Elevate technical capability across the engineering organization. Provide architectural guidance and promote engineering excellence. Collaboration Work with Product Managers and Engineering Leaders to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions. Provide technical input during roadmap planning and prioritization. Align engineering initiatives with product strategy. Required Qualifications 10+ years of professional software engineering experience Proven experience designing largescale distributed systems Expertise in languages such as Java, Scala, Go, or Python Experience with microservices architectures Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) Deep understanding of system design, scalability, and reliability engineering Preferred Qualifications Experience building highthroughput data systems or realtime platforms Familiarity with eventdriven architectures and messaging systems Experience integrating AI/ML capabilities into production systems Experience mentoring senior engineers or technical leads Key Skills Distributed systems architecture Technical leadership and influence System scalability and performance optimization Observability and monitoring Cloud infrastructure and platform engineering AIenabled systems and automation Crossteam collaboration and mentorship Impact of the Role A Staff Engineer drives architecture across teams, solves complex platformlevel problems, improves reliability and observability, enables AIdriven capabilities, and elevates engineering standards across the organization.
