About the role
As an Application Engineer (Java Back-End) at BlackRock, you will be responsible for designing and building resilient, enterprise-scale systems that support the global post-trade operations. Your focus will be on delivering high-quality software with an emphasis on reliability, performance, and clean engineering practices. Key Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain high-performance back-end services using Java 11+ and Spring Boot - Build and evolve microservices and event-driven systems to process large-scale financial data - Participate actively in design discussions, code reviews, and architecture reviews - Develop and support data integration and pipeline components across Snowflake, SQL Server, and real-time streaming platforms - Implement and optimize Redis-based caching solutions for low-latency data access - Contribute to end-to-end delivery; support lightweight UI updates when required, in collaboration with front-end teams and AI-assisted development tools - Promote best practices in code quality, testing, automation, and performance tuning - Continuously improve technical craftsmanship, problem-solving, and system design - Work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure solutions align with product and business needs Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field - 4+ years of professional experience developing applications in Java - Strong knowledge of Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and enterprise integration patterns - Solid experience with SQL Server, including data modeling and performance optimization - Hands-on experience with Redis for caching or data persistence - Experience with Kafka or similar messaging platforms for real-time event processing - Familiarity with Snowflake and data pipeline concepts (ETL, batch vs. streaming) - Understanding of clean architecture, maintainable code, and production-ready systems - Strong communication and collaboration skills The company, BlackRock, is dedicated to creating an environment where colleagues feel welcomed, valued, and supported with networks, benefits, and development opportunities to help them thrive.
