Manager, Systems and Database Engineering

As the Manager of Systems and Database Engineering at Pepperdine University, your primary responsibility is to lead the SDE team in operating Pepperdine's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Oracle database infrastructure, and OCI tenancy. You will be in charge of ensuring system stability, security, performance, and compliance across PeopleSoft, HR and Financial Systems, iHub, and related integrations. Your role will involve hands-on OCI knowledge spanning tenancy design, networking, IAM, high availability, middleware, monitoring, DR, patching, and automation. Additionally, you will be responsible for staff development, cross-functional coordination, and vendor management. Key Responsibilities: - Provide strong, consistent leadership to the Systems and Database Engineering team - Set clear departmental goals and objectives aligned with strategic priorities - Develop direct reports through goal-setting, performance feedback, and skills development planning - Manage multiple concurrent projects, including system upgrades, environment builds, security remediation, and cross-team integrations - Oversee the design, implementation, and ongoing support of the University's ERP infrastructure - Lead automation of repeatable OCI and PeopleSoft infrastructure tasks - Communicate regularly with supervisor, leadership, and stakeholders - Represent SDE professionally in multi-team projects and meetings Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field - Minimum of five (5) years of deep administrative and architectural experience with enterprise Oracle Database systems - Experience supporting complex PeopleSoft or comparable ERP environments within OCI - Strong background in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Automation tools - Proficiency in Oracle Database 19c/23c or current supported Oracle Database releases - Knowledge of PeopleSoft architecture and infrastructure stack Pepperdine University offers a competitive salary range of $145,000 - $172,000 per year along with a comprehensive benefits package.
