About the role
As a Linux Desktop & Devices Support Engineer at Canonical, you will play a crucial role in providing outstanding technical support for customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. Your responsibilities will include: - Delivering exceptional technical support on the full Desktop and Server technical stack at Canonical, from problem qualification to resolution. - Taking ownership of new cases via telephone, email, and web, and acting as an internal customer advocate to keep them updated in a timely manner. - Ensuring that each support case is handled according to the Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the highest customer satisfaction. - Contributing to the creation and maintenance of knowledge base articles for shared knowledge and lessons learned. - Drafting and distributing technical notices for internal and external communication. - Prioritizing tasks to accomplish the most important and urgent ones first. - Participating in various training sessions, team gatherings, and company events to stay updated on new products and technologies. - Maintaining regular communication with the team, locally and remotely, to exchange information and identify opportunities for improvement. - Participating in a regular weekend working rotation. Qualifications we are looking for in you: - Bachelors or equivalent four-year degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university, preferably in majors like Computer Science, MIS, or Electrical Engineering. - Experience with system performance troubleshooting and Linux troubleshooting. - Familiarity with Linux server administration and integration with other environments. - Programming fundamentals in languages like bash, python, Perl, Ruby, etc. - Ability to learn quickly, thrive on change, and handle the pressure of a customer-facing job. - Strong written and verbal English communication skills. - Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events. Additional Skills That You Might Also Bring: - Experience supporting virtualized environments and open-source desktop technologies. - Active contribution to open-source projects, forums, or code. - Experience with Linux Kernel.
