Postdoctoral Scholar

Case Western Reserve University Department of Radiology is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a postdoctoral scholar position in the Case Center for Imaging Research. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. The Postdoctoral Scholar will contribute to the development of multifunctional nanobubble contrast agents for ultrasound molecular imaging and ultrasound-mediated drug delivery. The ideal candidate will be creative, collaborative, highly motivated, and interested in translational imaging and therapeutic applications. Responsibilities and Duties: Plan and execute 3–4 research projects in collaboration with the PI, collaborators, and other faculty members at CWRU and partner institutions. Develop and optimize experimental designs for nanobubble and ultrasound contrast agent preparation, formulation, and characterization. Perform laboratory studies involving lipid-based nanoparticle formulation, functionalization, optical imaging, and in vitro and in vivo characterization. Conduct data analysis using established laboratory tools and methods and participate in development of new analytical approaches as needed. Contribute to research in ultrasound molecular imaging, ultrasound-mediated drug delivery, and related interventional radiology applications. Prepare manuscripts, figures, preliminary data packages, and other materials supporting publications and grant proposals. Conduct biological and potentially clinically relevant studies aligned with the interests of collaborating investigators. Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in sample preparation, experimental design, and data analysis. Participate in cell culture, cell-based assays, molecular biology assays, and animal studies related to tumor models, therapeutic assessment, and imaging validation, as applicable. These should not be revised.] In compliance with the City of Cleveland’s Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $63,480. Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, physics, biophysics, radiological sciences, or a related field; MD or PhD required. 0–1 years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent advanced research training. Experience with lipid-based nanoparticle or contrast agent formulation and characterization. Experience with optical imaging and in vitro assay methods. Strong written and oral communication skills necessary. Multiple peer-reviewed publications. Must be eligible to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in medical ultrasound, acoustics, bubble dynamics, signal processing, or related methodologies. Experience in ultrasound contrast agent development, including formulation, characterization, and assessment of nanobubbles, microbubbles, or related particles. Experience with cell culture, cell-based assays, protein extraction, and quantification techniques. Experience with in vivo studies, including handling and care of laboratory animals and surgical procedures related to tumor inoculation and therapy studies. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
