About the role
Role: Hardware Design Engineer Location: Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India (On-site) Employment type: Full-time Industry: Space Technology About Catalyx Space: We're building AWS for space—providing in-space experiments and tech demos across LEO, deep space, and lunar orbit. Our offerings include unmanned labs, testbeds for rideshare and dedicated missions, and re-entry capsules for payload return. We simplify access with end-to-end solutions, no minimum mass limits, zero integration fees, and fast deployment (6 months), serving biopharma, semiconductors, materials science, defense, and more. Role: Design, develop, and qualify spacecraft avionics hardware end-to-end—taking designs from concept through schematics, PCB layout, testing, qualification, and flight readiness—while ensuring compliance with space standards and mission requirements. What you'll do: Design schematics for OBC, EPS, communications, ADCS, and payload interfaces. Develop, simulate, and validate power regulation, signal-conditioning, and digital/analog interfaces. Own PCB lifecycle: schematic capture, layout, component selection, BOM, and documentation. Perform FMECA and worst-case analysis on all designed hardware. Procure components (space-grade/Hi-Rel), manage vendor qualification, and track availability. Run internal/cross-functional design reviews against mission & system requirements. Collaborate with mechanical/thermal teams for board integration into spacecraft structure. Create test procedures; validate via functional, TVAC, vibration, and EMI/EMC testing. Interface with software teams for hardware-software co-design and integration. Maintain complete design, test, and results documentation for traceability and mission heritage. Minimum qualifications: B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in ECE/EE/Avionics (or equivalent experience). 2–6 years designing hardware for aerospace/defense/embedded systems. Strong digital/analog design, microcontrollers, and sensor interfaces. Hands-on with Altium/KiCad/OrCAD/Cadence Allegro . Circuit simulation with LTspice/PSpice (or equivalent). EMI/EMC, grounding, and signal-integrity best practices. Knowledge of space-grade/radiation-tolerant parts, derating, and reliability analysis. Proficiency with FMECA , worst-case analysis, and component reliability assessment. Lab instrumentation: oscilloscopes, logic/spectrum analyzers, power supplies. Strong documentation and configuration-control discipline. Nice to have: FPGA/CPLD design and hardware-software co-design. Familiarity with ECSS/NASA/IPC standards for space hardware. System-level avionics integration and bring-up. CubeSat/smallsat avionics experience. CAD exposure (SolidWorks/Fusion 360) for board-mechanical integration. Compensation & benefits: Competitive salary (details will be shared with shortlisted candidates), health insurance Provident fund.
