About the role
Role Overview: You will be the Lead Mechanical Engineer II at Cepheid, a Danaher operating company, where you will lead investigations related to customer problems, drive to root cause, improve existing system designs and processes, and design/develop/document new products. Your role will involve refining technical knowledge on various tools for design, simulation, reliability, and tolerance analysis while working cross-functionally across the entire Cepheid business. Key Responsibilities: - Define, design, develop, and verify next-generation instruments, documenting progress throughout the product development cycle. - Design and develop complex electro/optical/thermal mechanical parts and assemblies with considerations for DFM, reliability, cost, and human factors. - Problem-solve engineering issues, conduct empirical studies, analyze data, and communicate results. - Write and release Design Change Orders (DCOs) for engineering drawings and Bills of Material (BOMs). - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage project timelines, scope, risks, and issues. Qualifications Required: - Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical product design for automated or electromechanical systems or designing fixtures, jigs, and tooling. - Experience in mechanism design involving motion and force analysis. - Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals including material, force, friction, and tolerance considerations. - Ability to independently lead technical design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams. - Hands-on CAD modeling expertise, preferably in SolidWorks, and detailing, including release of 2D drawings with GD&T. - Previous experience in simulation or analysis tools, supporting NPI, exposure to regulated or precision equipment environments, and knowledge of robotics would be advantageous.
