About the role
As a Design Engineer Reciprocating Compressors at Chart, your role involves being responsible for the mechanical design, analysis, and engineering support of reciprocating compressors. This includes designing and developing various compressor-related parts such as cylinders, pistons, crankshaft-driven systems, valves, and cylinder lubrication systems. Your key responsibilities will include: - Preparing detailed mechanical designs, calculations, and drawings in accordance with customer requirements and internal standards. - Performing design calculations related to strength, fatigue, pressure containment, vibration, and thermal considerations. - Selecting materials and components suitable for operating conditions like pressure, temperature, gas composition, and duty cycle. - Providing support for documentation related to quality, inspection, and certification requirements. - Collaborating with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams to ensure design feasibility and timely execution. - Offering engineering support during fabrication, assembly, testing, and Mechanical Run Tests (MRT). - Participating in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders. - Assisting in root cause analysis and corrective actions for field issues or test failures. - Contributing to design improvements, standardization, and value engineering initiatives. Your experience should ideally include: - A Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent. - 35 years of hands-on experience in the design of reciprocating compressors, pumps, or similar equipment. - Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, or equivalent. - Ability to perform mechanical design calculations and engineering evaluations. - Familiarity with compressor testing, MRT, and manufacturing processes like machining and assembly. - Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment with a focus on safety and quality. - Exposure to tasks such as vibration analysis, piston rod load calculations, or valve performance. - Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems.
