About the role
You'll design and maintain formal ontologies grounded in Basic Formal Ontology (BFO 2020) and the Common Core Ontologies (CCO) , extending them to model the domain-specific realities of global corporate taxation. What you'll do: Design BFO-compliant ontological structures that capture tax concepts, relationships, and reasoning patterns Extend CCO frameworks to model jurisdiction-specific tax requirements (US, UK, EU, APAC) Align external schemas—accounting standards, regulatory taxonomies, ERP data models—to our semantic architecture Develop OWL ontologies and SHACL constraints for data validation and automated reasoning Collaborate with data engineers, knowledge graph architects, and tax domain experts to translate professional judgment into formal models Contribute to governance artifacts: naming conventions, documentation standards, version control Support AI/ML explainability by ensuring our semantic foundation makes machine decisions interpretable You Bring Required: Master's or PhD in Philosophy, Computer Science, Information Science, Cognitive Science, or related field 3+ years in applied ontology development Deep knowledge of BFO 2020 and familiarity with the CCO suite Proficiency in OWL, RDF, SPARQL, Protégé, and related tools Demonstrated ability to design ontologies for mission-critical use cases Exceptional communication skills—you can explain why modal logic matters to someone who's never heard of Kripke Preferred: Experience integrating ontologies into production knowledge graphs Background in regulatory, financial, or compliance domains Exposure to semantic reasoning engines or AI systems Participation in standards bodies or ontology governance working groups Familiarity with tax concepts or financial reporting (we'll teach you what you don't know) About Clarity Tax Clarity Tax Technologies LLC is a woman and veteran-owned small business building the semantic intelligence layer for corporate tax.
