About the role
Job Title: Azure SQL Database Engineer Experience: 4 to 5 years Employment Type: Full-time About the Role We are looking for an Azure SQL Database Engineer to join our team and support a healthcare data platform engagement. You will be embedded with a client team, working across database design, pipeline support, and data infrastructure on Azure. You will be expected to take ownership of your work, operate independently, and bring both technical depth and sound judgment to day-to-day decisions. This is a hands-on role. You will spend most of your time in the data layer, not in meetings. What You Will Do Design, build, and maintain Azure SQL databases and related infrastructure Support data pipeline development and troubleshooting across Azure-native services including Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse Optimize query performance using Azure SQL Query Store and Execution Plan analysis to proactively identify and resolve slow queries before they become operational problems Implement and maintain database security controls including Azure Entra ID authentication, Row-Level Security, and Dynamic Data Masking to meet HIPAA compliance requirements Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to support schema design and data modeling Assist with migration of legacy SQL-based reporting and ETL pipelines to modern Azure equivalents Monitor database health, availability, and performance and resolve issues proactively Write clean, well-documented SQL for data transformation, reporting, and operational queries Support data quality and validation processes within the data platform Contribute to documentation of data structures, data flows, and operational runbooks What You Bring 4 to 5 years of hands-on experience with SQL Server and Azure SQL Database Strong command of T-SQL including complex queries, stored procedures, views, and performance tuning Experience with Azure data services including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, or Azure Databricks Familiarity with ELT pipeline design and working alongside tools like Matillion or similar Experience with Power BI or equivalent reporting tools is a plus Working knowledge of data modeling concepts including dimensional modeling, normalization, and schema design Ability to work independently, manage your own priorities, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders Healthcare domain knowledge is a plus, specifically familiarity with healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, ICD-10, or experience working with EHR data, claims data, or CMS-related submissions Nice to Have Experience with Snowflake alongside Azure SQL Exposure to HIPAA compliance requirements and working with protected health information Familiarity with Azure DevOps for version control and pipeline CI/CD Experience in a consulting or client-facing engagement
