About the role
Role Overview: You will be joining our team as a Mainframe DBA with expertise in DB2 system programming on z/OS. Your role will involve providing daily support and operations for the mainframe database, collaborating with application developers, and ensuring the integrity, availability, and performance of database systems. Key Responsibilities: - Perform preventive maintenance, function level upgrades, and version upgrades on Db2 and other tools. - Administer DB2 databases on z/OS, including regular backups, housekeeping, and performance tuning. - Execute database recovery and DRP procedures, as well as provide production support. - Apply learned skills independently, even without SOPs, and utilize DBA tools such as BMC Apptune, BMC AMI Ops, and IBM Cloning Tool. - Copy production data to lower environments and possess knowledge of JCL, SQL, REXX, and ISPF. - Collaborate closely with application developers and stakeholders, assess potential impacts, and resolve database issues promptly and accurately. - Recognize when escalation is necessary, analyze complex situations, and implement solutions effectively. - Take ownership of issues, document implemented solutions for future reference, and demonstrate eagerness to learn across various aspects. - Conduct troubleshooting and maintenance across multiple databases, ensuring database infrastructure remains operational at all times. - Work on projects as needed and maintain the integrity, availability, and performance of database systems through technical support and ongoing maintenance. Qualifications Required: - Engineering graduate in Computer Science or equivalent from a reputed institute. - 8+ years of experience in IT environment with database skills. - Ability to work in shifts until 20:30 IST and on calls. - Essential knowledge of JCL, SQL, REXX, and ISPF. - Familiarity with scheduling tools like BMC Control-M and ticketing tools such as HPSM or ServiceNow (SNOW). - Advantageous to have knowledge of Physical Data Models (PDM) and Logical Data Models (LDM).
