Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Architect to lead the design and architecture of embedded software for Electronic Braking Systems and Steering Systems in next-generation commercial vehicles to join our team specializing in Engineering for our location in Troy, MI.

This role will define scalable, real-time, safety-compliant, and cybersecurity-ready software architectures for braking control units, supporting performance, reliability, and compliance with global automotive standards. Lead software architecture strategy for braking and steering platforms across multiple vehicle programs while mentoring engineers and influencing enterprise-wide technology decisions.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways

  • Driving Data-Driven Product Decisions: You will leverage modeling, simulation, and analytical tools to predict system and component performance, enabling informed design decisions that improve product capability, reliability, and compliance with requirements.
  • Shaping Future Product Architectures: You will contribute to the development of scalable and innovative product platforms by evaluating architectural alternatives, conducting trade-off analyses, and aligning technical solutions with future market and customer needs.
  • Delivering High-Quality Software Solutions: You will apply robust software engineering practices to design, develop, and verify software that enhances product functionality, performance, and quality while supporting long-term maintainability.
  • Strengthening Product Validation & Risk Management: You will develop and execute comprehensive verification and validation strategies, analyze test and simulation results, identify risks and failure modes, and provide recommendations that ensure products meet performance and reliability goals.
  • Ensuring Requirements Traceability & Alignment: You will translate stakeholder needs into clear, measurable, and verifiable requirements, maintain traceability throughout the product lifecycle, and assess the impact of changing requirements on scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Applying Systems Thinking to Complex Challenges: You will evaluate interactions across systems, subsystems, interfaces, and environments to understand behavior, anticipate issues, and develop optimized solutions that deliver desired outcomes.
  • Building Collaboration & Driving Innovation: You will establish strong relationships across cross-functional teams and stakeholders, communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, and foster innovative approaches that improve products and processes.
  • Delivering Results Through Agility & Continuous Improvement: You will make sound decisions in ambiguous and complex situations, optimize work processes, embrace diverse perspectives, and consistently drive initiatives forward to achieve business and engineering objectives.

External Qualifications and Competencies

To be successful in this role you will need the following

  • Embedded Braking Software Architecture Expertise: Strong experience architecting Electronic Braking Systems (ABS, ESC, EBS, and brake-by-wire), with the ability to design scalable, real-time software solutions that address functional safety, cybersecurity, diagnostics, and fault management requirements.
  • Systems Integration & Cross-Functional Leadership: The ability to collaborate effectively with systems, controls, vehicle dynamics, hardware, safety, validation, cybersecurity, and supplier teams while leading architecture reviews, interface definitions, software partitioning, and technical decision-making.
  • Standards Compliance & Technical Governance: Deep understanding of ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, FMVSS, and ECE R13 requirements, ensuring software architectures, ECU specifications, and development processes meet regulatory, safety, and quality expectations.
  • Software Quality, Validation & Innovation Focus: Proven capability to guide teams in developing modular, maintainable, and reusable software while supporting integration, calibration, troubleshooting, and validation across HIL, bench, lab, and vehicle environments, and evaluating emerging braking technologies and ECU platforms to drive continuous improvement.
