Responsible for Fabrication, testing and erection of process and utility piping during execution of a project in close and efficient coordination between site engineering manager, site planning engineer, piping contractor and engineering contractor (EPCM). Overview/ Responsibilities: As a Piping Engineer , you will be expected to: contractor critically along with planning engineer deputed at site during construction phase Identifies planned activities for various contractors / subcontractors for short term and medium term Holds meetings with counterpart/ project manager to ascertain that they are providing adequate men and machinery to complete the work as per planned activities Ensures that persons deployed by the contractor are having adequate skills and experience to carry out the requisite work (welder qualification; IBR certification) Interfaces with detailed engineering contractor - wherever necessary- to resolve the technical issues and help the progress of piping fabrication/ erection Close watch on any design change request or specification waivers requested by contractor and accepting/ rejecting them through proper change management mechanism and maintains records for all such changes approved during execution of the project Understands and explains contract terms to all concerned and deviations if any are brought to the notice of project manager and resolved accordingly. Supervision and Progress Monitoring Close supervision of actual fabrication, testing and erection. Ensures that all the quality checks are carried out as per the project specifications/ quality plans and proper records are maintained. Interacts with lead lead engineers of construction contractor to monitor progress that is achieved vis -a- vis planned progress. Raises the flags wherever delays are anticipated and ensure that contractors take necessary corrective / pre-emptive actions to adhere to schedule Safety & Environment Works very closely with project manager, site construction manager, site safety engineer and construction contractor so that project safety and environment policy is adhered to in totality during all phases of construction; pre commissioning and commissioning. Statutory Approvals Assists project manager and site construction manager in preparing necessary documentation for obtaining various statutory approvals Cost Optimisation Always looks for opportunities to optimize the quantities and materials to minimize the cost in consultation with Project Manager/RCM. Reports Generates periodic reports highlighting areas of concern and identifying the actions which need to be taken and shares the same with project manager and site construction manager. Bachelor s degree in engineering (Mechanical) with a specialization in piping (preferred; but not a must) Minimum 18 to 20 years of experience in the field of management of piping fabrication and erection in an EPC environment for chemical / petrochemical/ refinery units. Exposure to working as an owner s engineer will be an advantage. He must have some knowledge of mechanical, chemical, civil, electrical and instrumentation engineering so as to discuss and understand requirements and problems with engineers in these fields. He must be aware of various standards, codes and practices. Technical /Functional Expertise: Good knowledge of all the stages of project execution activities (process plant) with an emphasis on piping fabrication, testing and erection activities Excellent proficiency in reading and understanding all the construction drawings related to piping (isometric, hook ups, standard and special supports, piping GAs, underground drawings, 3D model) Insight into construction and erection under other disciplines (instrumentation, civil, mechanical, electrical etc) and their interdependence during construction is a must Good working knowledge of planning, detailed engineering , management of changes during detailed construction Good knowledge of overall sequence and methodology of EPC execution of a chemical project Aware of all environment regulations and statutory requirements Reasonably good knowledge of various national and international design codes and practices (including those for safety) Very good knowledge of various statutory requirements (PESO, IBR regulations, factory inspector approvals , DISH approvals etc) Excellent command over written and verbal communication Excellent management skills
