Job summary
The Apache Cassandra Administrator will collaborate with a global team of database engineers to design, automate, build, operate, and continuously enhance distributed Cassandra services supporting customer-facing SaaS platforms. Responsibilities include building highly available, scalable, and secure database solutions with strong focus on performance, resilience, monitoring, and disaster recovery in large-scale distributed environments.
What you will do
• Design, deploy, and manage Apache Cassandra clusters across multi-datacenter environments.
• Build highly available, fault-tolerant distributed database architectures.
• Perform capacity planning, scaling, and performance tuning for Cassandra workloads.
• Implement replication strategies, consistency levels, and data distribution models.
• Optimize Cassandra data models using query-driven design principles.
• Monitor cluster health using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Splunk.
• Troubleshoot node failures, latency, compaction, and data consistency issues.
• Develop automation using Terraform, Salt Stack, Ansible, or similar tools.
• Support migrations from legacy databases to Cassandra-based solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on schema design and workload optimization.
• Provide on-call support and participate in rotating shifts as needed.
What you will have
• 3+ years administering Apache Cassandra in production environments.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts (replication, partitioning, consistency).
• Experience with Cassandra architecture, internals, and data modeling.
• Expertise in performance tuning (compaction, JVM, GC tuning).
• Experience managing multi-node, multi-datacenter clusters.
• Strong Linux systems administration knowledge.
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong troubleshooting and incident response skills.
Nice to have
• Experience with DataStax Enterprise (DSE) or Astra DB.
• Kubernetes-based Cassandra deployments (K8ssandra, Cass Operator).
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or Jenkins.
• Familiarity with additional databases (MariaDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
