Product Design Engineer

Job Summary A Product Design Engineer is responsible for creating and developing product designs that meet customer needs, engineering requirements, and manufacturing constraints. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and quality assurance to bring products from concept to production. Key Responsibilities Develop product concepts, sketches, and 3D CAD models based on requirements Create detailed engineering drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, AutoCAD) Perform design analysis such as tolerance studies, material selection, and basic structural/thermal considerations Build and test prototypes to validate design concepts Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective Improve existing products for performance, quality, cost reduction, or manufacturability Ensure designs meet industry standards, safety regulations, and company specifications Work with suppliers for component development and sourcing support Prepare technical documentation including BOM (Bill of Materials) and design reports Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback Required Skills & Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, or related field Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks / CATIA / Creo / NX preferred) Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals (mechanics, materials, manufacturing processes) Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) Basic understanding of prototyping and manufacturing methods (injection molding, sheet metal, machining, etc.) Problem-solving and analytical thinking skills Good communication and teamwork abilities Preferred Skills Experience with FEA/CFD tools (ANSYS, Abaqus, etc.) Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) Experience with PLM tools (Teamcenter, Windchill) Exposure to product lifecycle development Key Deliverables 3D models and engineering drawings Prototype designs and validation reports Updated product designs and improvement reports Technical documentation and BOMs Work Environment Office-based engineering environment with collaboration across departments Occasional shop-floor or lab visits for prototype testing and validation
