Staff Site Reliability Engineer - Product Area Focus

Role Overview: As a Staff Site Reliability Engineer with a focus on product area at Sumo Logic, your primary responsibility will be to own availability, the most crucial product feature, by striving for sustained operational excellence of Sumos planet-scale observability and security products. You will collaborate with your global SRE team to execute projects in your product-area specific reliability roadmap, aiming to optimize operations, enhance cloud resource utilization, strengthen security posture, and increase feature velocity for developers. Additionally, you will work closely with multiple teams to optimize the operations of their microservices and improve the lives of engineers within your product area engineering teams. Key Responsibilities: - Support the engineering teams within your product area by maintaining and executing a reliability roadmap focusing on improvement opportunities for reliability, maintainability, security, efficiency, and velocity. - Collaborate with development infrastructure, Global SRE, and product area engineering teams to establish and refine your reliability roadmap. - Define, evolve, and manage SLOs for teams within your product area. - Participate in on-call rotations within your product area to enhance the on-call experience and reduce operational workload for running microservices. - Optimize and tune on-call experience for engineering teams by completing projects. - Improve the lifecycle of microservices and architectural components from inception to refinement. - Write code and automation to reduce operational workload, improve efficiency, enhance security posture, and facilitate rapid feature delivery. - Work closely with developer infrastructure teams to expedite development infrastructure adoption of tools to advance reliability roadmap. - Scale systems sustainably through automation and drive changes that enhance reliability and velocity. - Conduct blame-free root cause analysis meetings for incidents and drive improvement. - Improve global IRC (incident response coordination) for all products. - Drive root cause identification and issue resolution with the teams. - Work in a fast-paced iterative environment and participate in hiring and mentoring new team members. Qualifications Required: - Cloud native application development experience using best practices and design patterns. - Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills across the entire technology stack. - Deep understanding of AWS Networking, Compute, Storage, and managed services. - Proficiency with modern CI/CD tooling like Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible & Jenkins. - Experience with full life cycle support of services and Infrastructure as Code practices. - Ability to author production-ready code in Java, Scala, or Go. - Proficiency in Linux systems and command-line operations. - Knowledge and application of modern approaches to cloud-native software security. - Experience with agile frameworks like Scrum and Kanban. - Flexible and willing to take on new roles and responsibilities. - Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. - 8+ years of professional experience in applied software security roles. Desirable Skills: - Experience with Sumo Logic products or other observability tools. - Proficiency in planet-scale product development. - Operating SaaS products on AWS Cloud with expert level proficiency. - Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka, Kafka Streams, or KSQL. - Expertise in Java, Go, Scala, Python, Terraform, Jenkins, or Kubernetes. - Extensive experience running and tuning JVM workloads at scale.
