About the role
Project Engineer Job Summary We are seeking a highly technical and experienced Project Engineer Planning & Engineering to lead the design, planning, implementation, and commissioning of Automated Parcel Handling Systems and Infrastructure Projects . The ideal candidate should possess strong project management capabilities, expertise in AutoCAD layout design , and sound knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles related to automation systems, material handling equipment, and logistics operations. This role involves managing projects from concept to completion while ensuring timely delivery, cost optimization, operational efficiency, and compliance with engineering and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Execution Lead end-to-end infrastructure and automation projects, ensuring delivery within approved timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Develop and manage project schedules, resource plans, budgets, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies. Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution and alignment with business objectives. Monitor project progress, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to minimize delays. Engineering Design & Layout Planning Utilize AutoCAD to prepare, review, and finalize: Facility layouts Equipment placement drawings Utility layouts Process flow diagrams Automation system integration plans Ensure optimal space utilization, workflow efficiency, and scalability in all designs. Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Review Evaluate and validate specifications for automation equipment such as: Conveyors Sortation systems Robotics DWS (Dimensioning, Weighing & Scanning) machines Material handling systems Review electrical designs, control schematics, power load calculations, and safety compliance requirements. Ensure all systems comply with applicable engineering and electrical safety standards. Stakeholder & Vendor Management Act as the primary technical point of contact for vendors, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders. Collaborate with Operations, IT, Procurement, Admin, and external partners to drive successful project outcomes. Review vendor proposals, technical submissions, and project deliverables. Testing, Commissioning & Performance Validation Lead installation, system integration, testing, and commissioning activities. Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and prepare corrective action plans for identified gaps. Validate system throughput, reliability, and operational performance against design specifications. Support process stabilization and post-deployment improvements. Documentation & Reporting Maintain comprehensive project documentation including: Layouts Technical specifications Scope of work documents Progress reports Risk registers Commissioning reports Present project status, recommendations, and technical findings to management and stakeholders. Required Skills & Competencies Technical Skills Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals with a background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering . Proficiency in AutoCAD for developing detailed engineering and facility layouts. Knowledge of: Material handling systems Industrial automation Electrical power systems Mechanical machine design Controls and automation systems Project Management Skills Proven ability to manage projects through planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. Experience in budget management, scheduling, risk analysis, and resource planning. Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities. Communication & Collaboration Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to influence and engage stakeholders across multiple organizational levels. Strong cross-functional coordination and vendor management capabilities. Personal Attributes High attention to detail. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Willingness to travel extensively across branch and hub locations for project implementation. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering , Electrical Engineering , or a related engineering discipline. Certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is an added advantage. Experience Requirements Minimum 1+ years of relevant experience in Project Engineering , preferably within: Logistics Material Handling Industrial Automation Supply Chain Infrastructure Demonstrated experience in: Automation project implementation Facility setup and infrastructure projects Equipment installation and commissioning On-site execution and stakeholder coordination Familiarity with Logistics Operations , Operations Research , and Supply Chain Concepts is a plus. Preferred Industry Exposure Logistics & Express Distribution E-commerce Fulfillment Warehousing & Supply Chain Industrial Automation Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Manufacturing & Infrastructure Projects Location & Travel Pan-India project implementation role. Frequent travel to branches, hubs, warehouses, and project sites across all operational zones.
