As a Staff Software Engineer, in Core Buyer Engineering org you'll design and build large-scale, distributed systems that power millions of customer interactions daily. Responsibilities Architect and Build: Design, develop, and maintain scalable, distributed, and highly available systems that ensure exceptional performance, reliability, and accessibility for eBay's marketplace platform. Technical Leadership: Translate complex business requirements into clean, efficient, and maintainable software solutions. Take ownership of large functional areas, providing deep technical expertise and driving architectural direction. Strategic Influence: Contribute to and influence technical strategy and long-term roadmaps, balancing immediate business needs with long-term engineering excellence. Collaboration and Mentorship: Partner with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Data Science to build innovative solutions. Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and provide technical guidance across teams. Engineering Roadmap: Anticipate future changes and design with flexibility in mind to support evolving business and technical needs. Qualifications Technical Skills Proven experience designing and delivering complex, distributed, and high-availability systems at scale. Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages and frameworks, with deep expertise in at least one or two (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python, or Node.js). Experience influencing and executing technical strategy and architecture roadmaps , with a balance of short-term impact and long-term innovation. Familiarity with Shift Left approaches and modern DevOps practices. Experience leading cross-functional engineering initiatives and delivering large-scale software solutions end-to-end. Experience 8+ years of professional experience in software development, with a track record of technical excellence and cross-team impact. Demonstrated success leading the delivery of large, complex systems in fast-paced environments. Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
