About the role
Role Summary : Own the complete electrical architecture of lithium-ion battery packs for electric two-wheelers cell configuration, BMS selection and integration, power and signal distribution, protection and safety delivering packs that meet performance, safety, reliability and regulatory targets. Works as a peer specialist alongside the Mechanical Architect and the Powertrain Integration Engineer. Key Responsibilities : Electrical Architecture: Define pack electrical architecture series/parallel cell configuration, voltage/capacity sizing, busbar and interconnect design, current paths, contactor/fuse/pre-charge topology. BMS Selection & Integration: Specify, evaluate and integrate the BMS cell monitoring, balancing strategy, SOC/SOH algorithm alignment, protection thresholds, communication (CAN/UART/RS485) and functional safety behaviour. Cell Characterisation: Lead cell evaluation and benchmarking capacity, IR, cycle life, thermal behaviour and define acceptance criteria for incoming cells. Protection & Safety: Design short-circuit, over-current, over/under-voltage and over-temperature protection; define fusing strategy, isolation, creepage/clearance and HV safety compliance. Wiring & Interconnects: Design cell-tap harnesses, sense lines, thermistor placement, busbars and connector selection (including fast-charge interfaces); manage voltage drop, EMI/EMC and reliability. Charger & Vehicle Interface: Define charging protocol and interlocks with charger and vehicle ECU/display in collaboration with the Integration Engineer; support CAN matrix definition and diagnostics. Validation & Homologation: Define and execute the electrical DVP charge/discharge performance, protection verification, environmental and abuse testing per AIS-156; support ARAI/ICAT certification. Supplier Interface: Evaluate cell, BMS and electrical component suppliers (India/China) technically; support the sourcing team in techno-commercial decisions. Qualifications & Experience : B.E./B.Tech in Electrical / Electronics Engineering. 5+ years in battery pack electrical design, BMS integration or battery systems engineering; at least 2 packs taken to production, preferably EV 2W/3W. Strong knowledge of lithium-ion cell chemistries (NMC/LFP), their electrical behaviour and safety characteristics. Hands-on experience with BMS platforms (off-the-shelf and custom), CAN tools (CANalyzer/PCAN), and lab equipment (cyclers, DAQ, oscilloscopes). Working knowledge of AIS-156; ISO 26262 awareness and EMC basics. Experience evaluating and working with Chinese cell/BMS suppliers is an advantage. Skills & Competencies : Circuit design and schematic capture; busbar sizing and thermal-electrical trade-offs. DFMEA, DVP&R, root-cause analysis (8D) and engineering change management. Data-driven approach to cell testing and field failure analysis. Clear documentation and supplier-facing technical communication. Key Performance Indicators : Pack electrical performance vs. spec (range, charge time, efficiency). Protection and safety validation first-pass rate. Field reliability electrical/BMS-related failure PPM. AIS-156 certification without major design iterations.
