In this role, you will bridge the gap between our internal Finance Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and a highly focused technical team. You will lead a team of 45 junior developers to design, build, and deploy production-grade Python automation pipelines that replace manual, iterative, multi-sheet Excel workflows. The ideal candidate has strong architectural experience deploying solutions across both local host and cloud environments, handling relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and extracting data from various enterprise ERP systems. Key Responsibilities: 1. Team Leadership & Technical Mentorship (30%) [6] Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 45 junior-to-mid software developers, conducting code reviews and ensuring code quality. Translate functional finance requirements provided by Chartered Accountants into clear technical specifications, epics, and tasks for the engineering team. Enforce software engineering best practices, including version control workflows (Git), automated testing, and comprehensive documentation. 2. Architecture & Pipeline Engineering (40%) Design scalable hybrid architectures capable of running securely on local hosts as desktop automation scripts, or scaling seamlessly to cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP). Architect robust ETL pipelines that programmatically ingest, clean, and consolidate massive, complex multi-sheet Excel datasets. Develop database-agnostic connection layers to reliably fetch, manipulate, and commit data to relational databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL). Build modular data connectors to safely pull financial data from various enterprise ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Tally) via APIs or database views. 3. Financial Controls & Advanced Reporting (30%) Implement programmatic data integrity rules (e.g., double-entry verification, cross-ledger balancing) to ensure 100% mathematical accuracy. Oversee the programmatic generation of highly styled, executive-ready Excel reports using Python, embedding native formulas for end-user drill-down. Establish strict exception handling and automated audit logs to trace data lineage from the source ERP/database to the final spreadsheet output. Required Technical Skill Set: Languages & Core Frameworks: Advanced Python mastery (OOP, concurrency, robust error handling, package management). Data & Excel Ecosystem: Expert proficiency in Pandas, NumPy, and Excel manipulation engines (openpyxl, XlsxWriter, xlwings). Database Management: Strong SQL proficiency with deep hands-on experience structuring queries and managing connections in MySQL and PostgreSQL. Cloud & Deployment: Proven experience deploying python applications in cloud architectures (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure serverless or VM environments) alongside local environments. ERP & API Integration: Experience connecting python pipelines to enterprise ERP data layers using REST/SOAP APIs, SFTP, or direct staging databases. Qualifications & Experience: Experience: 710 years of professional software/data engineering experience, with at least 12 years in a team lead or technical mentoring role. Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a highly quantitative engineering field. Soft Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders (CAs, finance managers), strong delegation skills, and a high sense of ownership over deliverable deadlines.
