Job Description

To assist management in financial-control and forecasting through the development of detailed models and actuarial analysis.

To help ensure financial targets are met through the provision of information to management, allowing strategies to be reviewed and amended where necessary.

Principal Accountabilities

Business Planning: Create annual underwriting plans through detailed discussions with the underwriting department as well as actuarial analysis.

Monitoring : Ensure financial targets are met through the monitoring of business development to enable early corrective action to be taken where necessary.

Financial models to be created and maintained in order to spot such departures at an early stage through clear early warning indicators.

Forecasts: Provide quarterly forecasts of results.

Reserving: Provide quarterly recommendations on the level of reserves required for UKB split between on-going business.

Analysis of Business: Perform other actuarial analysis when required enabling business strategies to be developed or modified. Examples include the production of underwriting statistics, profitability analyses, segmental analyses, assistance in pricing business, asset – liability matching, commutations Management Information – to provide management with information on a regular basis which is accurate and presented to a high standard.

Key Attributes Good knowledge of actuarial techniques and models (through the Institute of Actuaries and other sources).

Written and verbal communication skills to enable the results of actuarial analyses to be communicated to a non-actuarial audience.

Knowledge of the London Market.

Professional attitude with a proactive approach.

Ability to work on own and as part of a team.
