Position Overview

GDI&A PEM is looking for a Business Intelligence Data Engineer focused on deep diving into using state-of-the-art development tools to understand, ingest and present complex data from a series of source internal and external to the enterprise.

The Business Intelligence Data Engineer uses strong data processing skills and various BI/reporting tools to create self-serve reports, analytic dashboards and ad-hoc packages leveraging our enterprise data warehouse. This individual will work on a business team of talented BI/Data professionals driven to provide scalable, automated solutions around the globe.

Candidates for this position are experienced business intelligence and analytics developers, with a solid understanding of BI tools, architectures and visualisation solutions. They will have strong experience consuming data models, addressing data quality issues, proposing BI solution architecture, articulating best practices in end-user visualisations, coupled with passionate, development delivery experience.

The Business Intelligence Data Engineer will collaborate directly and continuously with product managers, designers, software engineers, and data scientists and will follow industry best practices to perform and automate complex ETL functions. The ideal BI Data Engineer will have a knack for implementing and learning required toolsets, working with connected vehicle and legacy datasets to build and publish logical representations of data. These well managed and organized data platforms will empower the building of new technologies, new applications or industry disrupting new insights from visually appealing dashboards.

Your Responsibilities (not necessarily all essential responsibilities)

Facilitates meetings with business subject matter experts, decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define goals and requirements for reports, dashboards, and analytics; mentor business users on reporting design.

Analyses business requirements and translates them into high-level design based on BI best practices.

Design, develop, deliver reporting instruments, dashboards and ad-hoc solutions using BI tools (semantic layer, analytics, dashboards, report definitions).

Ensures quality data creation, presentation, and data flow across systems.

Design, develop, create, and productionise Data Products for customers.

Develop and implement BI report objects supporting end-user business requirements.

Work with Product Owners, Product Managers, and Product Teams to prioritise and land data sources in conjunction with customer needs.

Collaborates within the technical business stakeholder team and various IT/EDW roles such as Data Scientists, Data Architects, Data Modelers, ETL Developers, Enterprise Architects, BI Developers, Project Managers, Platform Architects, Release Managers, and DBAs to drive the successful implementation of the large-scale data analytics/BI solution.

Develop and document the process to operationalize data management at Ford by collaborating with Data Governance and Data Acquisition teams.

Clearly articulates rationale for design decisions to various user groups from business to technical.

Participate in information governance processes.

Establish data standards and quality benchmarks and drive improvements to data quality to improve analytic outcomes.

Provide expertise in business domain required to deliver business objectives.

Manage business information issues and problem resolution processes.

Drive and be a catalyst for innovation.

Persevere and persist in situations with multiple objectives and multi-variable problems.

Think flexibly in a complex, highly interdependent environment with challenging financial, technical and project management constraints.

Drive long term enterprise view against tactical requirements. Trade-offs between tactical expediency and long-term business improvements are difficult to negotiate and sustain.

Support alignment between business, IT, and GDI&A stakeholders to drive results (issue resolution, risk mitigation, issue avoidance).

Provide departmental feedback to other GDI&A groups regarding processes and standards.

Collaborate and motivate within department, including readily sharing best practices with other GDI&A groups.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Analytics, Operations Research or business/technical equivalent.

  • 2+ years of progressive responsibilities managing data and data processes.

  • 2+ years of progressive responsibilities developing BI tools.

  • Experience with QlikSense / QlikView, SQL, Python.

  • Satisfactory Completion of Ford Hacker Rank Assessment for Data Engineers.

  • Preferred Skills

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.

  • Experience in the Manufacturing and/or Connected Vehicle / Commercial domain or working with Manufacturing and/or Connected Vehicle / Commercial data.

  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, and the ability to energize a cross-functional team.

  • Demonstrated problem formulation with the ability to take complex problems and break them down to create and implement an action plan.

  • Ability to communicate findings to make data analysis actionable and understandable by Data Operations team members, business partners, including IT and analytic teams.

  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal formats, including process documentation.

  • Experience developing data standards.

  • Experience working in Hadoop, particularly with HDFS and Hive.

  • Experience working with data in Informatica.

  • · It is expected that this role will involve a hybrid and flexible working model, i.e. most days you are likely to work from home, with an expectation to come to the office 1-2 days a week. In certain cases, we could consider candidates based relatively far from one of the Ford offices, if they are willing to commute to the office circa 2-3 times a month.

  • · Possible Ford home office locations – preferences to be discussed during the interview:

  • · UK (preferred) – Stratford, London or Dunton, Essex.

  • · Willing to travel occasionally to other locations (e.g., Germany, UK, USA).
