Description

Analyze a critical legacy system, namely the "Publication Service”, assess and evaluate its testability, and design and implement a test automation harness for regression and integration testing. The system under review consists of multiple services and batch jobs, which forms part of a portfolio of business applications and services supporting the PCT, a highly successful patent filing treaty.

Establish a repeatable test process for regression and integration testing of a critical legacy system.

Document the high-level system and low-level services that constitute the application under review, namely the "Publication Services”

Assess and evaluate the testability of the Publication Services. Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders in order to determine an approach and strategy for implementing a test automation harness. Scope to be defined based on complexity, ROI, risks, quick wins etc.

Design and implement a test automation harness for selected services/components.

· Conduct information gathering exercise: Collect information from developers and Production Support Staff as well as from existing "Publication Service” system artifacts such as system documentation, source code, system logs, etc.

· Collate and analyze collected information and data in order to establish a detailed understanding of the system, including the testing requirements such as test data and test environment settings etc. Validate and verify acquired knowledge and comprehension with team members and stakeholders as required.

· Document a high-level system overview depicting the system architecture, system interfaces, deployed services/components etc.

· Document a low-level service/component model containing the technical, functional and testing specifications, e.g. system implementation/technology stack, functional descriptions, system workflows, inputs/outputs, data processing etc.

· Evaluate testability of system and services; identify limitations and opportunities for modernization to improve testability, evaluate associated complexity, ROI etc.

· Design and implement a test automation harness for selected services/components

Detailed workload:

Detailed workload to be defined and agreed with project stakeholders. Examples of detailed workload include:

· Perform analysis/reverse engineering to understand and document the existing critical legacy system and its interfaces.

· Identify system test requirements including test data and test environment requirements

· Identify any limitations and opportunities for modernization to improve testability

· Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders and participate in discussions to determine approach and strategy for implementing a test automation harness

· Based on agreed scope and recommendations, implement system improvements, design and implement a test automation harness for system integration testing of selected services/components

Detailed specification of contract requirements for the above activities will be elaborated into a work breakdown structure and work progress will be recorded and tracked via the JIRA project tracking system.

Deliverables:

· Documented high-level system overview and low-level service/component descriptions with associated test requirements.

· Recommendations for improving system testability

· Recommendations on system testing strategies

· Develop and implement test harness for automated integration/regression testing of selected services/components
