About the role
Job Title: Senior Cloud & Platform Engineer (Azure)
Duration: 12–16 weeks (flexible)

Context
Client is building and operating a cloud-native platform (ICON 2.0) on Azure, working with external partners for development and platform engineering.
We require an internal technical counterpart who can:
• Understand how the platform works in practice
• Ensure alignment between architectural intent and deployed systems
• Provide informed challenge to external providers
• Support secure, stable day-to-day operation
Scope of Role
Cloud Platform Oversight
• Understand and oversee Azure platform (subscriptions, landing zones, connectivity)
• Validate changes and ensure alignment with architectural intent
• Identify gaps or inconsistencies in deployed infrastructure
• Understand how API-driven services interact across the platform, and support investigation of issues spanning API, infrastructure, and integration layers
Identity, Access & Security
• Support and evolve Entra ID, RBAC, and PIM model
• Ensure least privilege is applied in practice
• Assist with audit readiness (e.g. Cyber Essentials Plus)
Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
• Work directly with Terraform used to define the platform
• Read, understand, and modify configurations where required
• Improve clarity, structure, and maintainability of IaC
• Help build internal confidence and understanding of Terraform
Operational Support
• Diagnose and assist in resolving platform issues
• Interpret logs, alerts, and monitoring outputs
• Contribute to practical runbooks and operational clarity
Vendor & Delivery Interface
• Act as internal technical counterpart to external partners
• Review and challenge proposed changes where needed
• Maintain clear responsibility boundaries
• Ensure alignment between documented architecture and deployed systems
Light Engineering / Automation
• Write scripts or small utilities as required
• Support CI/CD pipelines where needed
• Read and reason about code to support diagnosis and integration
Expected Profile
• Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
• Comfortable working across architecture, operations, and IT support
• Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
• Understanding of identity and access management (Entra ID, RBAC, PIM)
• Comfortable working in API-driven architectures and understanding how services interact within a distributed platform
• Experience supporting live production systems
• Able to operate independently within a small organisation
• Confident working with and constructively challenging external partners
