About THE Role
In 2025, the Alexa International tech team have been launching 3P experiences on Alexa+ in International locales. The team have been integrating 3P experiences so that Alexa can enable customers to book rides, reserve restaurants, and order food on Alexa’s latest Generative AI experience. We are looking for developers to lead the expansion of Alexa's 3P Task Completion capabilities internationally to support the vision of making Alexa "the best AI assistant worldwide."
If you like to create new customer experiences and enjoy working on a variety of projects to broaden your skillset then this is the position for you. This role is also a unique opportunity to start to learn more about generative AI and work end-to-end on a range of different services, whilst building and launching new impactful Alexa products that make a genuine difference to our customer's lives.
Key Accountabilities:
Design and implement API integrations with third-party services in complex distributed systems.
Focus on scalability, performance, and end-to-end customer experience.
Test integrations on device with guidance from the team.
Work closely with Paul’s team — contractors will continue existing integration work (not Greenfield) and be onboarded/guided by the core team.
About THE Candidate
Qualifications

Backend developer (not frontend).

Primary tech : Java (backend) and experience building microservices. Java used within last 6 months. Level: expert.

4-6 yrs of experience (Specified 4–6 years on job spec, but team is open to strong candidates with ~3 years if they meet requirements and perform well in interviews).

Preferred: Experience with AWS/serverless equivalents (e.g., Lambda-like patterns), building and consuming APIs in production distributed systems.

The ideal candidate has experience working with API integrations and will be required to design and implement 3P API integrations with complex distributed systems, focusing on scalability and performance optimisation.

The candidate must have strong experience in API development, micro-services architecture, and cloud platforms, with proven ability to handle high-throughput systems and real-time data processing.

They must be detail oriented, have superior verbal and written communication skills, strong organisational skills, be willing to do many roles to get the deliverables done, and are able to work independently and with many partner teams whilst maintaining professionalism under pressure.

Ability to work independently in distributed environments, sound technical ownership, bias for action, and strong technical depth.

Autonomy and comfort making technical decisions with limited supervision.

Strong ownership, ability to ramp quickly, effective remote collaboration.

Communication skills for working with QA and cross-location teams.

Engineers are not required to be multilingual. Localization is handled via libraries and testing support; multilingual testing resources are available.
