About the role
The Opportunity A Cellular Architect for this engagement must combine telecom architecture (LTE/5G IoT), cybersecurity threat modeling, and utility-scale AMI communication expertise, with strong capabilities in risk assessment, encryption/identity, and long-term network strategy. A comprehensive analysis of potential impacts to Client cellular functions such as availability, integrity of commands and data, remote operations and service disconnect, fleet management and provisioning, and over-the-air (OTA) updates and firmware distribution. A comprehensive assessment of the public LTE carrier core compromise scenario should begin with a clear definition of the threat scenarioincluding underlying assumptions, relevant threat actors, preconditions, and potential exposure pathways between carrier infrastructure Your Key Responsibilities The Cellular IoT Architect shall assess and evaluate clients proposed communications approaches for upgradation, with a focus on resilience, and long-term viability. Provide an assessment of the client ecosystem and the timelines associated with the modules and services provided by the major wireless carriers. Skills and attributes for success Deep expertise in LTE/4G architecture (EPC, RAN, Core) Understanding of 5G evolution pathways (eRedCap, NB-IoT, Cat-M1) Knowledge of public carrier architectures & dependencies Ability to evaluate long-term technology viability (till 2053 lifecycle) Experience in utility AMI / smart meter communication ecosystems Understanding of: Fleet provisioning & device lifecycle management OTA firmware updates Remote operations / service disconnects Traffic modelling awareness (device density, burst patterns) Cat-M1 (LTE-M), NB-IoT, eRedCap ecosystem maturity Device-module ecosystem & carrier rollout timelines RF characteristics and coverage trade-offs Deep knowledge of: LTE core vulnerabilities Threat models (carrier core compromise scenarios) Ideally, youll also Integration with OT/SCADA systems Understanding of grid-edge computing Experience in hybrid comms architecture (cellular + mesh) Digital twin integration for network simulation / traffic modelling What we look for Security controls across: Device Network Core Application layers Implementation knowledge of: IPsec / network-layer encryption End-to-end encryption models SIM/eSIM security frameworks Understanding of: Identity & key management systems Provisioning flows (eSIM ownership models)
