Position Summary The Electrical Engineer will plan, execute, and support electrical and electronic design activities for new product development and sustaining engineering programs at Industrial Scientific. This role contributes directly to the development of safety‑critical, regulated hardware systems, working across the product lifecycle from concept through verification, certification, and production support.
The position requires hands‑on electrical design expertise, strong documentation discipline, and close collaboration with Mechanical, Firmware, Compliance, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering teams. Key Responsibilities In accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and ISC procedures, the Electrical Engineer will:
Designing analog and digital hardware to receive agency approvals (UL, CSA, ATEX, IEC, MSHA, etc.)
Plan and execute electrical design and development activities for new and existing products
Develop electrical architectures, schematics, and subsystem designs in coordination with cross-functional product development teams
Design and support multilayer PCBs, power systems, interfaces, and interconnects
Generate and maintain system and subsystem requirements
Support design through verification, validation, and design transfer
Specify electronic components, power supplies, and protection devices
Develop and execute electrical test methods, protocols, and reports
Perform failure analysis and root cause investigations
Maintain accurate technical documentation including schematics, calculations, BOMs, test data, and design rationale
Participate in design reviews and technical risk assessments
Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on builds, debug, and production issues
Interface with external suppliers, test labs, and certification agencies as required
Support cost estimation, schedule planning, and continuous improvement initiatives

Manage third party on and off-shore development teams when needed
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
3+ years of experience in electrical or electronic product development
Experience delivering designs through a structured product development lifecycle
Working knowledge of:
Electrical schematics and circuit design
PCB design and layout collaboration (Altium Designer is a plus)
Power management and protection concepts
Electrical test equipment and lab practices
Experience producing clear, auditable technical documentation
Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with safety‑critical or regulated products (industrial, medical, or hazardous‑location equipment)

Familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., IEC, UL, IS, CE)

Experience supporting third‑party testing and certification activities

Exposure to failure analysis, design for reliability, and risk mitigation
