Senior Data Platform Engineer

Role Overview: As a Data Platform Engineer at Gen, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and monitoring of data platforms and pipelines. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the stability, reliability, and efficiency of the data platforms, as well as driving continuous improvements in operational and maintenance processes. You will collaborate with various teams to support new use cases and contribute to the overall success of the data organization. Key Responsibilities: - Operate and monitor data platforms (Azure and on-prem/legacy) to ensure availability, performance, and reliability. - Run and support data processing workflows, handle incidents, troubleshoot failed jobs, and coordinate fixes with development teams. - Implement and enhance observability through monitoring, alerting, logging, and establishing SLAs/SLOs for data platforms and pipelines. - Drive continuous improvements in data platform operations by simplifying and automating recurring tasks, reducing manual interventions and operational risks, and enhancing deployment and change management practices. - Collaborate with data engineers and product teams to operationalize new data products and integrate them into existing platform standards. - Contribute to operational documentation, including runbooks, standards, best practices, and knowledge sharing within the data organization. Qualifications Required: - Hands-on experience in data platform operations, data engineering, or related roles. - Strong understanding of data processing concepts such as batch processing, scheduling, dependencies, failures, and backfills. - Practical experience with Azure data services and/or traditional ETL tools. - Proficiency in SQL and modern version control workflows. - Problem-solving mindset with a focus on stability, reliability, and continuous improvement. - Good communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Experience or willingness to learn modern data stack technologies like AWS, Snowflake, dbt/SQLMesh, Git/GitHub, CI/CD practices, Kubernetes, Kafka, IaaC, and platform automation. - Solid scripting/programming skills in SQL, Python, and Bash to build tools and utilities for automation and operational improvements.
