About the role
Role Overview: As a Senior Backend Engineer at our company, you will be involved in building scalable, AI-powered search and retrieval systems to enhance critical member-facing experiences. Your primary focus will be on backend services, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch infrastructure, ETL/data pipelines, and AI-enabled search capabilities across various data domains. You will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing global search experiences that utilize lexical, semantic, and hybrid search techniques while supporting AI-agent-driven workflows and high-performance retrieval systems. Key Responsibilities: - Design and build scalable backend systems and APIs to support search and AI-driven features - Develop and optimize search capabilities using OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, including lexical, semantic, and hybrid search techniques - Enhance search relevance, indexing strategies, query performance, and scalability - Build and maintain ETL and indexing pipelines for batch and near real-time data processing - Support AI-powered search experiences and agent-based retrieval workflows - Contribute to architecture decisions, engineering standards, and technical strategy Qualifications Required: - 7+ years of backend engineering experience building scalable distributed systems - Strong hands-on experience with OpenSearch and/or Elasticsearch in production environments - Experience with search optimization, indexing strategies, and query performance tuning - Experience building ETL/data processing pipelines and event-driven systems, including familiarity with cloud-native workflow and serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, EventBridge, AWS Glue, or similar platforms - Experience integrating or deploying AI/LLM-based solutions in production environments - Proficiency in Python and/or Java - Experience in designing APIs and microservice architectures - Understanding of cloud-native application development - Excellent problem-solving and communication skills (Note: The additional details about the company have been omitted as they were not explicitly provided in the job description.)
