Senior BI Consultant

Roles and Responsibilities Report Migration & Development Analyse existing Cognos report designs, backend SQL queries, and prompts/filters to fully understand the business logic, data relationships, and visual expectations. Redevelop 100+ Cognos reports to Power BI paginated reports, re-creating equivalent or improved visual experiences using Power BI features. › Re-develop Cognos report backend queries into Power Query (M) transformations and DAX measures optimized for the new Databricks data model. › Validate converted reports against Cognos originals for numerical accuracy, filter behaviour, and business logic fidelity. Data Modelling & Query Optimization › Prepare source-to-target mappings for data models to supports all report requirements. › Design or refine Power BI semantic models (import, DirectQuery, or composite) to ensure optimal query performance against the Databricks data mart layer. › Collaborate with the Data Engineering team to define and refine aggregated views, derived columns, and mart-layer structures required for Power BI. AI-Accelerated Development › Actively use AI-powered tools (Claude Code, Microsoft Copilot, Power BI MCP) to accelerate the development of Power BI reports & semantic models. › Critically evaluate AI-assisted output, apply corrections, and ensure final deliverables meet quality and accuracy standards. › Contribute to the team's AI acceleration framework by documenting reusable prompt templates and conversion patterns. Stakeholder & User Engagement › Conduct workshops and walkthroughs with Singtel business users to validate report designs, gather feedback, and obtain sign-off at each sprint review. › Produce and maintain report specifications, design mockups, and user acceptance testing (UAT) scripts. › Provide post-migration support including bug fixes, performance tuning, and incremental enhancements during hypercare. Mandatory Skills & Experience Power BI & Microsoft Stack (Must have) › Strong hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Embedded — including complex DAX authoring, Power Query (M), and data modelling. › Hands-on experience with Power Apps (canvas or model-driven) integrated with Power BI or SharePoint. › Working knowledge of Microsoft Copilot for Power BI and/or M365 Copilot in a data analytics context. › Hands-on experience with Azure data services relevant to Power BI: Azure SQL, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Databricks connector. Cognos & Migration Experience (Good to have) › Good working knowledge of IBM Cognos Analytics — including report design (List, Crosstab, Chart, Active Report), Framework Manager data models, and Cognos SQL. › Demonstrated experience in Cognos (or equivalent legacy BI tool) to Power BI migration — understanding how to map Cognos constructs to Power BI equivalents. › Ability to interpret Cognos backend SQL and translate it into Power Query or DAX patterns effectively. AI & Automation Tools (Preferred) › Hands-on use of AI-assisted tools for BI development and migration: Claude Code & Cowork, Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, Cursor IDE, automated BI converter tools, or equivalent. › Ability to assess, validate, and refine AI-generated Power BI measures, transformations, and report structures for production quality.
