Senior Power Systems Engineer

Job Description: Senior Power Systems Engineer Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer responsible for performing system-level electrical design for customer grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) products. The role focuses on developing safe, flexible, reliable, maintainable, and cost-effective electrical designs by integrating battery systems, power conversion systems, transformers, controls, communication, auxiliary power, and safety equipment. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in electrical power system design, renewable energy systems, and BESS product development , with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. Key Responsibilities Perform core/system-level electrical design for multi-MW Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) . Develop electrical system requirements and designs integrating: Battery systems Power conversion systems (PCS/Inverters) Transformers (LV/MV) Control hardware Communication systems Auxiliary power systems Safety equipment Define system architecture, electrical interfaces, component selection, and configuration requirements. Prepare technical product documentation, including performance metrics, datasheets, and system configuration limitations. Support Sales Engineering teams with technical inputs for customer solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including: Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering Software Engineering Verification & Testing Manufacturing Procurement Product Management Drive product integration activities and ensure all system components and features work together effectively. Develop system-level interface documents, installation guides, operation manuals, and maintenance documentation. Perform and review electrical studies including: Short Circuit Analysis Protection Sizing Protection Coordination Arc Flash Analysis Harmonic Analysis Evaluate product safety standards and regional electrical codes to support certification and compliance activities. Work with electrical component suppliers/vendors for evaluation, selection, and technical documentation of system components. Support hardware testing, test plan development, prototype evaluation, and validation activities. Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and define tasks required for product development. Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, stakeholder feedback, and process improvements. Support preparation and review of electrical drawing packages and provide design inputs to CAD teams. Collaborate with global teams and stakeholders across different regions and time zones. Educational Qualification Bachelors or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Full-Time) or equivalent. Experience 5–9 years of experience in Electrical Power Systems Design, Renewable Energy, Power Generation, or related industries. Mandatory Skills & Experience Proven experience in Electrical Power System Design for renewable energy systems such as: Solar Wind Hydro Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Hands-on experience in BESS system design, configuration, and validation . Strong understanding of BESS components and system architecture, including: Batteries Inverters / PCS BMS (Battery Management System) EMS (Energy Management System) Inverter Duty Transformers LV AC/DC Switchgear Breakers, Fuses, and Relays Experience in electrical component selection and interface design. Experience in preparing: Power Flow Arrangements Single Line Diagrams (SLD) Control Schematics Experience in electrical studies: Short Circuit Analysis Protection Coordination Protection Sizing Arc Flash Analysis Harmonic Analysis Knowledge of electrical standards and codes: IEC NEC IEEE NFPA 70 IEC 60364 UL 9540 IEC 62933 Knowledge of industrial control systems and communication protocols. Experience with New Product Development (NPD/NPI) and systems engineering processes. Familiarity with DFMEA and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies. Experience with engineering/project tools such as JAMA, Jira, and TestRail is preferred. Experience with MATLAB Simulink or EMTP-RV is an added advantage.
