About the role
As a Mechanical Engineer focused on cost out projects, your role will involve executing cost reduction initiatives on existing products through teardown, idea generation, and implementation. You will be responsible for performing VAVE studies to identify cost out opportunities that are quality neutral. Additionally, you will be tasked with conducting cost benefit analysis and determining annualized savings for the assigned projects. Key Responsibilities: - Execute cost out opportunity mining exercises within the Mechanical domain through spend - pareto analysis, should-cost analysis, competitor benchmarking, tear down activities, etc. - Interface effectively with sourcing, operations, quality, service, global R&D teams, external suppliers, vendors, and customers. - Act as a technical expert in the field of mechanical engineering, providing technical solutions and engineering specifications. - Lead standardizations of mechanical design processes, optimize design practices, and promote best practices. - Drive project planning and execution in system architecture strategy, engineering proposals, mechanical design, development, qualification, and validation to ensure system-level functionality, performance, safety, and quality. - Ensure timely delivery of assigned projects within specification and at or below target cost by developing solid engineering plans. - Approach problems systematically with the use of industry-standard tools to ensure comprehensive understanding and effective resolution. - Foster team growth in technical depth and encourage knowledge sharing across product lines. - Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs team members to obtain necessary product approvals such as U.L., FDA, C.S.A., and European certifications. Qualifications Required: - Demonstrated expertise in applying DFx knowledge (manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, safety, cost) to mechanical designs, with expert knowledge in sheet metal, machining, plastic, and die casting. - Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experience with tolerance analysis. - Hands-on experience with 3D CAD software tools for mechanical design, modeling, and detailing. - Ability to drive engineering solutions to complex problems using tools like Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Design of Experiment (DOE), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA). - Knowledge of design involving electro-mechanical parts. - Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems. - Strong communication skills to collaborate globally and across functions. - Enthusiasm, adaptability, initiative, creativity, ownership, and problem-solving skills are essential for this role.
