About the role
IKS Job Description We are looking for a Computational Linguist with a profound background in Sanskrit and a functional mastery of Natural Language Processing (NLP). The successful candidate will be responsible for building the bridge between the structured, rule-based logic of Paninian grammar and modern AI-driven language models. You will not just be processing text; you will be digitizing and codifying the logic of one of the world's most scientific linguistic traditions. Key Skills Linguistic Modeling: Apply Paninian Grammar ($Ashtadhyayi$) logic to develop computational models for Sandhi-splitting, Samasa (Compound) analysis, and Anvaya (Prose-ordering). NLP Pipeline Development: Design and implement NLP pipelines for Sanskrit, including Part-of-Speech (POS) tagging, Lemmatization, and Dependency Parsing based on the Karaka system, Experience in Python , Concepts of ML . Hybrid AI Systems: Combine rule-based linguistic engines with modern Transformer models (BERT, GPT) to improve accuracy in low-resource language settings. Resource Creation: Develop and maintain digital linguistic resources like WordNets, Treebanks, and Gold-standard corpora for Sanskrit. Collaboration: Act as the subject matter expert (SME) between the Engineering team and Sanskrit scholars to ensure technical feasibility and linguistic accuracy.
