About the role
[About the Role] Join a high-impact Equities Engineering team as a senior, hands-on Full-Stack Developer. Drive the re-engineering and modernization of mission-critical trading platforms, leveraging AI-powered developer tools and scalable cloud microservices. Collaborate directly with front office, operations, and cross-functional teams to innovate and deliver next-generation equities solutions. This is a contract opportunity based in New York, NY, offering exposure to cutting-edge financial technologies and the chance to mentor and lead junior talent.
[Responsibilities]
- Architect, design, and develop core trading and messaging channels, ensuring seamless integration with external venues and exchanges.
- Enhance and maintain front office and operations applications, delivering robust day-to-day enhancements.
- Build high-performance Java components utilizing Spring Boot, messaging protocols (Kafka, MQ), and Oracle Database.
- Oversee system testing, deployment, and second-level production support, troubleshooting under pressure.
- Collaborate in a dynamic platform operating model, driving innovation, modernization, and migration to microservices and cloud environments.
- Mentor junior developers and foster a culture of best practices and continuous improvement.
- Utilize AI-assisted coding tools (GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Cursor) to boost productivity and code quality.
[Required Skills and Experience]
- Minimum 10 years in Java software engineering, with expertise in Spring Boot and Oracle Database.
- Proficient with messaging tools/protocols: Kafka (preferred), MQ, FIX, FpML.
- Strong experience in equities trading systems, including order management, trade data feeds, and equity product knowledge (mutual funds, ETFs, stocks, futures, swaps, options).
- Hands-on familiarity with AI developer tools (GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, Cursor).
- Comfortable with DevOps, cloud environments, and cross-platform (Windows/Linux) development.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
[Preferred Skills]
- Experience with Angular and Python for front-end and scripting enhancements.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and trade lifecycle in equities.
- Application profiling, debugging, and production support in high-pressure environments.
- Experience in the securities or financial services industry with a focus on equities.
