Web Application Developer – WordPress | SO# 437 Location: United States | Remote/Onsite as Needed | 5-Month Contract | W2

About the Role

Join the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP), as a Web Application Developer. In this impactful position, you’ll play a key role in building and securing the back end of a public-facing WordPress site that supports critical health initiatives. Collaborate with a forward-thinking UX/UI content manager to deliver a modern, mobile-friendly, and accessible website for the greater community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, secure, and maintain the back end of a WordPress website

  • Collaborate with UX/UI content manager to implement user-centric and accessible web interfaces

  • Ensure mobile responsiveness and compliance with WCAG AA accessibility standards

  • Apply best practices for performance, scalability, security, and testing

  • Troubleshoot and resolve front-end technical issues as needed

  • Integrate translation frameworks to support multilingual content

  • Utilize architectural and design patterns for robust application structure

  • Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum three years of hands-on experience in systems analysis, programming, and design

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience

  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and PHP

  • Strong grasp of design and accessibility principles

  • Experience with performance optimization and secure coding practices

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse team

  • Preferred Skills

  • Prior experience with public sector or health-related web projects

  • Familiarity with advanced translation frameworks

  • Knowledge of additional design and architectural patterns
