Software Engineer (Java/Spring, AWS) – Financial Services Location: Riverwoods, IL (Onsite Preferred / Hybrid for Exceptional Candidates) Job Type: Contract

As a Software Engineer, you’ll architect, develop, and optimize backend microservices and distributed data pipelines using the latest Java technologies and AWS cloud services. Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust backend services using Java 21, Spring Boot, and microservice patterns

• Develop and optimize large-scale data processing pipelines with AWS EMR, Apache Spark, and cloud-native tools

• Implement comprehensive automated testing with TDD, BDD, JUnit, and Cucumber

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, compliant, enterprise-grade solutions

• Enhance system observability with metrics, logging, and performance tuning for reliability

• Lead or participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and process improvements

• Ensure strict adherence to financial industry standards for security, auditability, and operational excellence

• Required Skills and Experience

• 5–7 years as a Software Engineer or Backend Engineer with a focus on Java

• Expert-level proficiency in Java 21, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and microservices

• Hands-on experience with AWS (EMR, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch highly valued)

• Solid background in distributed systems, data structures, algorithms, and data pipeline design

• Demonstrated practice of TDD, BDD, Cucumber, and automated testing frameworks

• Experience with CI/CD, Git, Jenkins, or GitLab

• Experience in regulated, enterprise, or financial environments

• Willingness to work onsite in Riverwoods, IL (hybrid considered for exceptional candidates)

• Preferred Skills

• Experience with AWS EMR, Apache Spark, and large-scale data processing

• Familiarity with Kafka, Kinesis, or streaming data technologies

• Exposure to DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, Docker, or Kubernetes

• Understanding of domain-driven and event-driven architectures

• Performance tuning for low-latency, high-volume systems

• Financial services, fintech, or risk systems background
